Resident Evil: Revelations Review (s)
RESIDENT EVIL REVELATIONS is a really good game. I don't exactly know the reputation this game has, I never really looked into it, but in my personal experience I really enjoyed it.
Chris Redfield & Jill Valentine return in Revelations, and they are as good as ever. I really love these 2 characters and their duo dynamic.
Jill & Chris are no longer S.T.A.R.S, clearly after the destruction of RACCOON CITY in RESIDENT EVIL 3, S.T.A.R.S is non-existent. Now that S.T.A.R.S is gone, they are members of the BSAA, the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance. The entirety of Revelations had me questioning the legitimacy of the BSAA, and it's head, Clive R O'Brian. The game made me want to trust Chris & Jill's judgement about joining the organization, but something about O'Brian makes me heavily question the BSAA & it's involvement in the Bioterrorism world. The BSAA, clearly, is against Bioterrorism and B.O.Ws (Bioweapons) but something about O'Brian really had me questioning their true mission.
Revelations also introduces Chris & Jill's partners in the BSAA. That's right, unlike S.T.A.R.S & the events of RE1, Jill & Chris don't work as full-time partners in Revelations. Instead, Jill is partnered up with Parker Luciani, and Chris is partnered up with Jessica Sherawat.
Parker is a really cool character & I think worked really well in this game. I enjoyed his presence and his team-up with Jill worked out very well.
Jessica on the other hand, I didn't like very much. I thought she was just kind of annoying & didn't really like her character. Her inclusion is necessary for the game, but for me she was very unlikable.
I don't like her being partnered with Chris, their dynamic just does not work in my opinion.
As much as I like Jill & Parker's team-up, nothing will ever beat the duo dynamic of Chris & Jill.
Revelations heavily leans into the action side of things. This game did not give me any scares at all, and I think that's unfortunate, but the game does not suffer from it in my opinion. There are a few times when the game is clearly trying to be more scary, but at least for me, it did not hit. This game is full of action, and while I heavily prefer Survival Horror RE, this game's action is very engaging & it works very well. It kept me engaged in the game & I really enjoyed it. Still, I prefer RE Survival Horror.
Whilst I played Revelations, I really could not figure out whether I liked it or not. I really just could not put thoughts together & form a true opinion, but after completing the game I can confidently say I very much enjoyed Revelations and the game is very good. It's not my favorite, RE4 & Village still hold a tie for that spot, but it's definitely high up there.
Overall, even though Revelations is very action-heavy, it works very well & keeps you engaged. I know lots of people prefer Survival Horror in RE, and I am one of those people, but even with a lack of it this game was tons of fun.
I recommend everyone play Revelations as it's a lot of fun, just don't go in expecting a lot of horror. If you can take easy scares then this game probably won't get you at all, it didn't get me at all but like I said, there are points where it's clearly going for a little horror.
This game takes place in between RE4 and RE5, and I'm playing it just like that. My last game was 4, and my next is 5. The ending to Revelations has me very interested what the story of 5 is going to tell & I am very excited to see what the next disaster is.
