Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Review (xxadonisxx)

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is the jolt of adrenaline the franchise desperately needed. After a few action-heavy missteps, Capcom takes a bold pivot back to its horror roots—and it’s nothing short of brilliant.
Trading in global bioterrorism for claustrophobic dread, the game places you in the shoes of Ethan Winters, an everyman searching for his missing wife. His journey leads him to the decaying estate of the Baker family, deep in the Louisiana bayou, where something has gone horribly, unnaturally wrong. From the first creaking door to the final grotesque showdown, RE7 immerses you in an atmosphere dripping with menace.
The biggest change is the shift to first-person perspective. It's a gamble that pays off. Every hallway becomes a tunnel of anxiety, every sound a potential threat. The intimacy of the view heightens the horror—when Jack Baker bursts through a wall with a shovel, you don’t just see it. You feel it.
What sets Biohazard apart is its pacing. It knows when to dial up the terror and when to give you a moment to breathe. The puzzles are satisfyingly old-school, and the resource management is classic survival horror—limited ammo, tight inventory, and tense decision-making.
The Bakers themselves are unforgettable antagonists: grotesque, charismatic, and terrifying. They’re not just monsters; they’re characters. Each member of the family offers a distinct brand of horror—from Jack’s relentless pursuit to Marguerite’s insect-infested madness.
Graphically, the game is stunning in a disgusting sort of way. The RE Engine delivers uncanny realism, from mold-caked walls to glistening entrails. Sound design, too, deserves praise—groans, whispers, and footsteps constantly gnaw at your nerves.
If there’s a drawback, it’s in the final act, where the narrative takes a more conventional turn, slightly pulling you out of the suffocating tension that defined the earlier hours. Still, it's a minor blemish on an otherwise masterful experience.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a triumphant resurrection of the series’ core identity. It’s brutal, unnerving, and deeply atmospheric—everything survival horror fans crave. Not just a great Resident Evil game, but one of the best horror titles of the last decade.
