Resident Evil 6 Review (milky)
Many Resident Evil fans, long-term or short-term, tend to have this very common opinion that Resident Evil 6 is their least favorite for their own reasons-- and as much as I like to respect opinions, they're wrong.
Okay I'm kidding, their opinion is valid, but Resident Evil 6 is personally one of my all time favorites. In Resident Evil 6, you will be playing through four different campaigns: Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Jake Muller, and Ada Wong. In each campaign, each character and their partner(s) have their own objectives in a general situation that all ties together. When playing through the chapters of these characters' campaigns, you will without a doubt come across some confusion when playing. However, once you play through it all EVERYTHING starts connecting and making sense.
I'm primarily a console player, so I have this game's achievements ALL unlocked and have replayed this game about six times with six different friends. You don't have to go on this journey alone as you or your friend can play as the main characters' partners: Helena Harper, Piers Nivans, and Sherry Birkin. Unfortunately, Ada Wong's campaign was not intended for co-op, so when you play co-op as her partner, Agent, there is the issue with not being able to interact with ANYTHING, just kills. Either way, experiencing this with your friends, Resident Evil fan or not, is one of the best experiences to have within this chaotic game.
This might be more of a biased feeling, but I thoroughly enjoy Resident Evil's main characters: Leon, Chris, and Ada, so when seeing them all together in this way as a long-term fan, it brings me a lot of joy; especially when they bring in Sherry Birkin who has grown significantly not just in age, but personality and in-general-- an amazing human being who definitely took after Leon and Claire. In the events of Resident Evil 6 and seeing all of these characters interact with each other on screen once more, and bringing up older events from older games into conversation is just so intriguing to witness. You get to see how the past and current events still effect these characters and their actions, and how they do whatever it is they can to overcome that to help each other fight off the current evil.
Now the campaign isn't the only fun within this game, you can play online with other people or with your friends in RE6's Onslaught, Survivors, Predator, and Siege modes and challenge yourself! You also get to collect interesting outfits for the characters that I personally find super cool. This isn't a necessarily unique feature when it comes to Capcom's resident evil games, but as a whole these modes just add onto the entertaining experience that is Resident Evil 6.
Is Resident Evil 6 a bit of a different approach to how the older games were? Yes. Is this game more action-packed and tense than scary? Yes, and I do miss the fear, challenging puzzles, and running about to try to figure out how to progress, but the overall journey, story, and game-play still makes it all the more enjoyable. I highly recommend this game if you're looking for something adventurous and action-packed to play with a friend or not, or if you're a long-term friend and wondering if this game is even worth playing-- I promise you it is.
Disclaimer: You can still play this game as a stand-alone or maybe you want to play this game first out of the recommended order, but for full experience, nostalgia, and enjoyment-- it's best to try to play some of the older games first as some characters will refer to older events out of context.
