Remnant II: The Forgotten Kingdom Review (Patches)
I was going to describe Lydusa, the World itself, and the issues of the DLC. But really, it's fine, and the DLC adds A LOT for what it costs. Theres more weapons, amulets, rings and mutators having been added than in the previous DLC.
BUT MY BIGGEST ISSUE IS locking items and ARCHETYPES behind the Wikipage. The Devs have started designing the game around us using the wiki. You wont find the new Archetype naturally, as it requires you to wait in one spot for 5 minutes. Then 2 of the new Long Guns are near inaccessible without the wiki, talking about the Polygun and Trinity Crossbow.
These two Points, regarding new weapons and the new archetype, are so annoying to me. Why would you design it like this? What's the fun in opening a browser and looking things up in the wiki? Don't you want people to explore and experiment with the game?
There's no experimenting in waiting 5 Minutes in a sand pit. There's no exploring in looking for 13 f**cking lights in the Labyrinth.
STORY AND IMMERSION
I wanted to play this DLC without the Wiki, because natural experiences are the most fun, and more importantly, the most immersive. Once I'm immersed, I care about the world, Yaesha, why some of the Pan decided to cross oceans to reach this new foreign land, but as soon as I have to open the wiki, all of it is lost.
I bet whoever the people are at Gunfire Games that work on the story have to have noticed how it isn't kicking off, even remotely as close as Dark Souls is. Now while there are many reasons, for me this is the prime issue. You're designing your game around breaking immersion, and once immersion is broken, there is no story. I cared for the world of Yaesha, until their world was reduced to my personal loot hunting ground. I really wanted to play this DLC while leveling the new Archetype, but couldn't, cuz I only found out how to unlock it through the wiki AFTER playing the DLC, which was really disappointing, especially in comparison to the previous DLC. In the previous DLC you were rewarded for exploration with the new Archetype. In this one, you get punished for exploring.
Because I love Remnant 2 so so much, I recommend this DLC, and the game as a whole. But seriously, Gunfire, stop designing new content around Wiki-Use and tedioum. There's more than enough of it in the Game already, especially with the last DLC. Make the content more accessible, it doesn't make sense to lock soooo many items, and now even Archetypes, behind the Wiki and braindead grinds.
