Remnant: From the Ashes Review (Wicked K.)
As of writing this review I have 160hrs in this game and I can confidently say that this is a really good game and the fact it never got popular and people barely talk about it anymore, I'd say it's one of the best sleeper hits I've played.
It starts off as a pretty difficult game, even on normal (which is the baseline difficulty), especially if you don't play "souls-likes". But, of course, the more you play the more gear and traits you get and upgrade your stuff and easier it becomes. So naturally, you can move on to higher difficulties like: Hard, Nightmare and Apocalypse; when you start to find normal too easy. Although, I should say that, the RNG aspect of this game can screw you over depending on what stuff you get on your first run through the Campaign mode, because some gear/mods aren't really that good at the beginning and others are stupidly strong even early on.
Bosses are well designed and I enjoy fighting them a lot (both solo and co-op). Some feel a little bullshitty at first but once you get the hang of them, you'll realize they're fair.
The part I enjoy the most is that pretty much every single weapon and mod is viable and you can make a build around it in late game. You wanna play a mod mage who blows everything to high heavens with their mods? You can! You want to be a stealthy sniper who moves in shadows and one taps everything and leaves bosses heaving after 2 hits? Sure, go ahead! You want to build a tank who takes multiple hits from enemies at once and then replenishes health like he just got sneezed on? Yup, that's available. You wan to play good old support in co-op buffing your teammates and healing them, while also not losing too much damage potential yourself? Done.
Speaking of co-op. I really like it. Community is 99% of the time chill and very cooperative. Just don't set your game to public if you're gonna kick someone immediately after they join. Other than that, there's not a lot of ways to understand each other, except pinging and only a handful of emotes which take a little too long to "be expressed" and the options are very limited.
This is probably my only negative opinion on this game. It needs more emotes and different types of pings for better communication.
I have positive expectations for the sequel, and how they might improve it, which HOPEFULLY should be happening in the foreseeable future, since THQ Nordic trademarked the title "Remnant from the Ashes 2" and "Remnant 2".
If it has peaked your interest, definitely grab this game while it's on sale (and it goes on sale pretty frequently). It's worth the money.
