Remnant: From the Ashes Review (Dayne)

Review from a Achievement Hunter

TL:DR: Souls-like shooter game with challenging and varying content. Mostly grind-based achievements which, even though satisfying to complete, feels a bit too long.
The Game
Remnant is a solo/coop souls-like third person shooter, set in a post-apocalyptic world where you must fight the Root to save the last remnants of humanity.
With many different weapons, builds, upgrades and difficulties Remnant offers a challenging experience that you can tailor to your liking. But even though there's both a campaign and adventure mode, the base game feels a bit repetitive as the worlds are not particularly varying and most of the dungeon runs become rinse and repeat due to the upgrades requiring materials that you can only grind out. Still, before you reach this point you will have explored everything the game has to offer and I am sure you will feel content in experiencing Remnant.
Game Score: 8/10.
The Achievements
Variety: 7/10. There is a mix of achievements in regards of campaign objectives, collectibles and farming materials. The majority of the achievements are centred on grind, which feels a bit unfortunate as it becomes a bit stale at times.
Length: 4/10. Completion time relies heavily on skill and how good/effective your build is. There are tips online on stronger builds and weapons, but again, it is still dependant on how well you perform in progressing throughout your runs. With some of the current completion stats, I would say it would take around 60-80 hours to complete all of the acheivements, which feels a bit too long given that it is mostly grind-based achievements.
Difficulty: 9/10. Remnant is a difficult game to complete in itself, with challenging bosses that will put your skills to the test. The difficulty affects the achievement in a way, but none of the achievements require you to play on the highest difficulty. It makes it a bit hard to say if the achievements are difficult to complete given the game's design, but I would say it is still a fair challenge. If you need assistance, there is a guide available on Steam.
Price: 7/10. There are two DLC:s available that are also required for a 100% completion. This would put the total at 60 euro (or your region's price). While the game offers a lot of replayability, it still feels a bit steep so I would strongly advice to pick up the game on sale.
Satisfaction: 8/10. Even if the global achievement percentages are pretty high, it still feels incredibly good to complete some of the harder achievements. I enjoyed beating the most difficult bosses in different modes and even grinding out the longer achievements felt very satisfying.
Achievement Score: 7/10.
