Redfall Review (Babrosa69)

I think for its current price (less than 30 bucks) and after all the updates since release, you'll get your moneys worth
The level design is pretty great, the Locations felt well thought out and usually more than just being a set piece to kill some vampires in
There's a couple missions that show what the game could have been, but there's so many avenues the game could have gone that would have made it fundamentally more enjoyable
Any semblance of spookiness, or dare I say horror is gone when you add legit heroes to the mix, at least for me.
I enjoy the characters and their personality, but why should someone with supernatural abilities and a vampire ex-boyfriend be scared of the current setting? Or a supernatural phenomen hunter?
The levels themselves can actually build some atmosphere, and creeping around corridors with your flashlight, with some silhouettes hushing around or humanoid figures casting shadows in your field of view feels honestly great. Add in the constant droning of cult leader speeches and you can get decently immersed in the game.
I also enjoyed the constant mistery behind the vampire outbreak, every new piece of information just opened up more questions behind the key figures and their motivations.
Once the action starts though the game kinda falls apart. You use your different arrays of abilites and blast through vampires. The different "elite" vampire types are nice to have in the game, but are, at best, annoying to fight against. The different character abilities are decent fun, but event the most fun abilities and interactions can't make unfun enemies fun to fight against.
A slower paced, more grounded approach to combat would have helped here in my opinion.
Enemy AI is pretty basic, humanoid enemies stay in cover usually, vampires just bolt straight at you.
The weapons are fun to use, and while there is some variety to them, when a massive part of your game is the potential loot grind you need wayyyy more options to choose from. The aiming with mouse also never felt quite right, and more weapon customization would have been welcome. Let me fit a suppressor on weapons and switch scopes
If you've got time to kill, enjoy arkanes worldbuilding and can get behing most loot shooters, I'd say give this game a try when its on a discount
