Red Matter Review (Argamas)
I got this game in a bundle with Red Matters 2. I was interested into the sequel but the reviews led me to believe I probably wanted to play the first one too. Well, maybe I will get a better grasp on the story but I wouldn't recommend getting the 1st game at full price.
It is a really small game at less than 3GB, and the graphics are simply not that good. I am sure a Quest could run this game on its own (no need for PCVR).
This is a really short game. I completed it in approx 3.75h, while taking pauses and exploring my environment.
The mechanics to solve the puzzle are a bit simplistic. Turning wheels with both hands, manipulating levers, clicking buttons, inserting objects.... I think that covers it. Nothing exceptional. And the physics can feel a bit weird at time : I left the second fuse required for the air lock on the moving platform, and it stayed floating in the air!
The story is interesting, the difficulty of the puzzles is fine as there are always clues about what needs to be done. It's well executed but... Simple. There is no way they should be asking more than 15$ for this in 2023. So if you don't mind a short and simple puzzle game with an intriguing story, maybe wait until it is on rebate. If you have just played Lone Echo 2 and Half Life Alyx and are looking for the next big adventure.... You should probably skip Red Matter 1.
