Red Dead Online Review (Kitsuma)

Let me start off with, I love this game. This is probably a shock considering I gave it a thumbs down. The sights are beautiful and really hammers home the wild west themes. In general, the game is fun to play. Mechanics and story are great, loads of character customization, and a wonderful general feel of living out in the west. There are a few things I'd wish to be added but they don't detract from the game. Such as being able to lay down at your campsite for maybe increased healing or aesthetic. Selling stolen horses or captured horses since that is literally the tutorial but something not implemented in the online. But these things don't break the game. Don't make me not want to play it. Just things that would be cool to have.
What does break the game is hacking. While this is not Red Dead exclusive, and certainly not Rockstar exclusive, Rockstar has a habit of having little to no anti-cheat matched with little to no care about such hackers. It's only gotten worse over the years. People randomly killing you (not from the PvP) with different methods such as spawning a bear while you're in your safe zone so you are either killed by the bear(s) or insta-killed by the hacker once leaving the safe zone. A general random teleport that could be a simple prank to lets throw you off a cliff multiple times, and to finally stealing your money. I've had all three happen to me. The last one relatively new to me but that I've now decided enough was enough. The other ones, annoying. Just moved to a different session. This last one, the last straw.
You may think, well just earn your money up again. Unfortunately it's not quite so easy. The cash sure. Was super frustrating, but the gold bars and tokens are much harder. Gold bars can be earned by earning little nuggets. So it isn't even a full gold bar. It's like gather a whole bunch of cents to try and make a dollar. Sometimes you find a quarter, but most of the time it's nickels or pennies. So of course, it is typically a pay for currency. Using real money to buy the gold bars. That's a problem if someone keeps stealing it. At that point, they might as well be stealing real money. And finally tokens, only given when you level up in your job. That means they are finite. Unless you can earn more after maxing out your jobs not entirely sure. Haven't gotten there yet, because hackers keep me from enjoying this game.
And that sums up my review. The reason I don't recommend getting it, is simply because of hackers. And more importantly, hackers being allowed to get away with their hacking.
