Ready or Not: Home Invasion Review (The Fungus)

It might seem like a lot to ask for 10 Euro for a map pack with 3 levels in 2024 but for RoN it's really worth it. If you have friends, only one person needs the DLC for everyone else to gain access in that lobby (blessed, thank you Void).
Each new map feels like the devs accumulating all they have learned and ramping it up in the best ways. The theme of this DLC is focused around a hurricane decimating the city, perhaps as an excuse to have huge puddles on each map that nicely shows off the new reflections that came with the update from UE4 to UE5.
The first level, 'Dorms', is about moving a camp of homeless people from a condemned dormitory where they are taking shelter. The devs have been fairly thoughtful about this, the mission briefing shows the reluctance of the police to want to do this and even throws criticisms at the system that is going to shuffle them along to another unsafe situation once you do your job. That all goes out the window a bit however when you show up and half of them are packing full-auto rifles. A clear clash between fun gameplay and the themes, but they still encourage you to go non-lethal.
It's a fantastic mission that offers situations not seen in base levels, the two floors have a huge, single hall way with doors either side, it's basically impossible to cover all angles at once as a result and is very tense.
'Lawmaker' is what I can only describe as a SWAT team raiding a mansion from the original Thief game. The level design here is so well thought out. This map probably offers the most variations to enter and proceed out of any map in the game, it helps that there are ample amounts of enemies to shoot. Visually, it's also the best level in my opinion, right up alongside Neon Tomb.
The final level 'Narcos' has you engaging an entire cul-de-sac to rescue an informant who got made. It's a fantastic crescendo packed full of detail, but my main complaint is that some areas are so cluttered with detail that it can actually make it difficult to discern where enemies are. With this sort of game it's easy to write that off as being realistic but this is one of the only missions I have this complaint about.
The great thing about this DLC is that the weapons are available to everyone for free. The P320 FLUX Raider, the M4PDW and the FN509 feel as good as all of the other weapons in the game, though I wish the FN509 had a compensator and I am begging Void to please add new weapons that aren't AR-15 platform variants - I know that G3 is in the game files and I am desperate for it.
Performance for me at medium, 1440p took a slight hit at launch but they did a (surprisingly fast) hotfix patch and my performance is somehow better than ever, very little stuttering on DX11, sitting at 60fps like 80% of the time.
My complaints as of July 2024 remain the same; let me change loadouts in a menu before missions, let me disable friendly AI if I want (also please continue to improve it), add more enemies to each mission, update RoE for some missions (why am I punished for killing an armed terrorist holding hostages without asking for his consent to arrest him?) and please add more variety to enemy/civilian behaviours.
