Railway Empire 2 İnceleme (Bond)
Like: Track building is easy, graphics are great, and it's a pretty low-complexity to just chill playing.
But there are major areas where it just doesn't work.
1. The economic model is badly broken. Way too easy to make money . I'm a casual player, not at all a min-maxer, yet after a few game years I have so much cash rolling in that my game is essentially endless expansion. There is no tension, no difficult financial decisions to make, and no opportunity cost for anything. I like the idea of playing a 100 year of railroad progress, but no custom game lasts more than 10 years because at that point you are just filling the map as fast as you can lay down track with your mouse.
2. The tech tree is a facade. It is linear with the occasional small branch, but any real choice is an illusion. Progress is fixed with so many points per month, and you have no control over it. No such thing as an R&D budget. And, the points are so generous that you end up unlocking EVERYTHING before the 10-year "gate" to the next phase opens. So you start the next decade with a huge number of research points ready to go and again, leapfrog into the supposed tech tree. It's like "whose line is it?"; the points don't matter.
3. The AI is totally useless. It builds crazy webs of single lines to rural depots, never upgrades engines, and then builds a hotel and warehouse at EVERY depot - none of which get any usage whatsoever. So when you buy them out -which you will just to spend all your cash - you pretty much have to destroy everything and rebuild anyway.
4. While the graphics are very nice and smooth, you cannot sort the engines and rolling stock into models appropriate for the map. So you get fleets of european locos all over North America, for example. And true, you can just decide not to buy them, but they fill up important capability progression slots. The rolling stock all seems modeled on Euro styles, too. Camera controls to view your train and the surroundings are wonky and counter-intuitive.
Summary - I want very badly for the above items to get fixed. But for now I've demoted RE2 to the game I play when I'm too tired to do any thinking. I wish that was not the case.
