Puppy Cross Review (purpledragon42)
So, I love nonograms a lot, but I usually stay away from non-story focused games because I don't find them as engaging. I gave this game a chance because the art looked cute, I ADORE dog-themed games, and I thought the decorating part of the game sounded fun. :D (It was also on sale.) >.>
When I first started playing I was a little concerned about the fact that I wouldn't be able to 'win' the dogs or decor unless I beat the timer. However, once I started playing, I quickly found that the game offered PLENTY of time to get each puzzle finished, and I stopped even looking at the timer after the first two or three. Of course, I do nonograms (both paper and pixel) all the time, so someone less familiar with them might find some of the grids more challenging than I did.
This game - both the original content and the cats DLC - was very enjoyable even without a story attached! In fact, my only 'complaints' are so minor that they're more like suggestions. I would loved to have seen more interaction between the pets and the decor. For example, having the pets lie in their beds/kennels, or having the cats actually get in the cardboard boxes. (I did like the catnip interaction! That was great! :D) But more things like that would've made a great game that much better.
Something else that would be fantastic is if there were a place where we could pick different coats for the animals. For example, I could go to a special section in the options menu and tell the game that I want the Chow Chow that spawns in my garden to be Black or Cream, instead of Red. Or maybe the game could spawn random coat colors? That way you could have one of each Chow Chow color in your garden if you wanted. :) I'm all about variety! ;)
I'd also like to recommend a few more dog breeds - perhaps for the next DLC? (Yes, I'm hoping there's more of this game in the future. <3) Here are the ones I was hoping to see, and didn't: Great Pyrenees, Golden Retriever, American Staffordshire Terrier, Cane Corso, Labradoodle, Old English Sheepdog, Irish Wolfhound, Samoyed, Borzoi, Alaskan Malamute, and Bull Mastiff
And now I'm off to see if I can figure out a few more of those creative achievements! :D
