Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Review (Advulf)
Blast from the past that still works fine in old operating systems, as of the end of 2022. Just be sure to limit your framerate to around 70 or so or the cutscenes are not going to sync with the audio, which can be rather annoying.
It's a great start to a wondrous tale that is also the revival of an old franchise. It's a true hero's journey in the classical fashion of a hero sacrificing all, changing through his struggle, and coming back, surrendering the power he could have obtained. Narrative is pretty clever from both a mechanical and story-wise viewpoint.
Mechanically, it is a 3D platformer that relies heavily on flashy, but satisfying parkour maneuvers, the OG of other climbing and running games that came to take a page from its book, but the mechanics are not that dated and the graphics still seem fair even after so long. You do have to struggle with the camera a bit, and jumps can sometimes happen in unexpected angles for apparently no reason, but controller support is still fine, if you want to do a more classic approach.
Formula is simple: Climb some stuff, kill some stuff, climb some stuff, kill some stuff, head-scratching puzzle, climb some stuff, kill some stuff. Find hidden goodies in between. Still one hell of a time to go through it.
