This is my fifth and final review of the Prince of Persia games and before going into this review I have to get this off my chest: Ubisoft, why for the love of God has this game not received a sequel, in fact, it’s been twelve, TWELVE years since the last Prince of Persia game. I would gladly trade like five of the Assassin’s Creed games just for one new mainline entry in the Prince of Persia franchise. It frustrates me to no end how Ubisoft is letting this IP just sit there, collecting dust and slowly being forgotten. Now that I got that rant over with, let’s get into the actual review.
Story synopsis:
This game is set in its own universe, not connect in any way to the other Prince of Persia games. The game starts off with the Prince roaming the desert during a sandstorm, looking for his donkey, falling into a ravine a stumbles into a woman named Elika. She was being followed by some armed men, so the Prince decides to follow her and help her out. He had no idea what he has gotten himself into…
Gameplay:
This game is very different from the other PoP games and this is intentional by the devs and works to the game’s favor greatly. The combat is more 2v1 focused with you being able to chain badass combos together. Speaking of 2v1, thank you Dean Kamen for this wonderful segue, you have a partner, Elika, that helps you with most combat situations. Elika not only adds to the combat, but also to the Prince’s movement around the world and of course, she adds banter and they go back and forth constantly with a wonderful dynamic that not many games do these days. Take care of Elika and she will take care of you. The game isn’t really difficult, it’s just chill, really. I took great pleasure in just exploring the area for collectables and taking in the view, which reminds me; the game is gorgeous. The world they made in this game is absolutely jaw dropping. The gameplay is just really good, I enjoyed it greatly.
Level design/Parkour:
The world is beautiful made and is quite honestly some of the best platforming I’ve seen in any game ever. Keep in mind, I have played the other PoP games and this game still amazed with how fluid and just beautiful the parkour is. They also tied Elika into the parkour, where the Prince and Elika will help each other during platforming sections and it works wonderfully, she never gets in the way and makes everything feel that much more fluid. Definitely a huge positive for the game.
Soundtrack:
The OST for this game is very beautiful and adds to the experience and immersion. It made some moments very peaceful and calm, some added to the intensity of the moment and just in general was beautifully composed.
Concluding thoughts:
Now to wrap up this series of reviews, the only real negative with this game is the fact that it never got a sequel THE DS GAME IS NOT CANON, SO DON’T @ ME and Ubisoft keeps sitting on their ass doing nothing with this gold. 9/10, great story, lovely visuals, very chill and most importantly; fun.
