Post Void Review (LordSithaniel)
Short Review
Post Void is a really short shooter, took me 45 minutes or so to finish. Mostly to understand the gunplay as a single playthrough is probably 10 minutes.
It’s a fast paced, roguelike, retro fps with an action-packed main theme that kept me really engaged. The gameplay is based around an Idol in your left hand, which slowly drips a fluid that will end your game if you run out of it. Damage reduces it, kills refill it partially.
You can choose between 3 random upgrades after each level which you have 11 of them. The upgrades aren’t that interesting, basically either a different weapon, a stat upgrade like more idol fluid or reload speed and an effect which the game doesn’t have that many like exploding enemies or ricocheting bullets. There are 4 weapons, starting pistol, knife, double barrel shotgun and a smg which I used the latter mostly.
It’s a real interesting concept due to the visual bastardization of the retro fps look. Everything is trippy, bright and violence is everywhere. Enemy design is crude, as are your leathery, solely skin and bones featured hands.
Gunplay is fun, I really like the feedback enemies and your gun gives you as the recoil is heavy, so is the impact of the bullets you shoot.
The game kinda says it has a story, but it doesnt. Its a real weird mix between offering substance but actually realizing it has none, or trying to intepretate the few snippets of text the game offers you, including those in the trading cards, to somehow picture lore in this game.
It’s a short game concept that I take anytime over a long-fetched roguelike that takes me 50++ hours to complete. Although the rather limited abilities and it having basically only a single (although fantastic) theme song and not that much variety in the map design it feels like a demo or concept for a much greater game.
