Platform 8 Review (Guillaume)
Platform 8
Platform 8 by KOTAKE CREATE achieves taking a simple concept or idea and making something unique, creepy, and enjoyable out of it.
The mechanics of the game are less intuitive compared to The Exit 8, despite the sign at the beginning of the game.
The core components of gameplay involves memorizing in details the in-game location as you first pass through it, and be on the lookout for any anomalies on your subsequent passthroughs. This time however, most anomalies need to be solved before progressing to the next section, sometimes simply by finding them, other times through some challenge of reflexion.
Unfortunately, some anomalies are simply for visual effect and psychological horror, and cannot be solved, making it somewhat unclear whether the player is supposed to do something or simply press onwards.
The game varies in difficulty depending on which anomalies you get and how they need to be solved, and therefore can either become moderately complex or time consuming to finish just as it can be completed on the first try.
The achievement of finding all anomalies further enhances and extends the gameplay experience by adding replayability, and the clever system in place ensures that you get the chance to see all anomalies at least once before they can repeat.
The visual aesthetics of the game are clean, polished, and of good quality.
Platform 8 is overall a good quality, slightly challenging, and enjoyable psychological horror puzzle game from KOTAKE CREATE, and despite being less successful than its predecessor The Exit 8 by KOTAKE CREATE, still constitutes a good iteration of the look out for anomaly genre of games.
