Pixel Ripped 1978 Review (HouserVT)

Pixel Ripped 1995 is my favorite VR game of all time (tied with Duck Season). 1978 is a good addition to the series. I enjoyed it more than 1989, but it didn't hit home like 1995 did (I'm a kid of the late 80s early-90s, so nostalgia bias wins out there). The playtime for '78 was a bit longer than '89/'95 for me, but for whatever reasons, '95 felt longer.
There are new mechanics that give '78 a very distinctive feel, and the way they're integrated in to the glove with color laser indicators was really awesome, that was a well done mechanic. The time travel in 1978 isn't chronological, which was an interesting change up from the other games. I preferred the progressing through the ages that '95 had, but I can understand why they switched it up for '78.
The biggest difference is that '78 is much more "first-person". While the distinctive "play a console in VR" is there (yes, you obviously play Atari), this game flushed out 1st person movement and interaction. Unlike the stationary '89/'95 games, you'll be "walking" through a lot of zones/levels in '78; even using melee weapons.
Terence Dunn's amazing Pixel Ripped theme recurs throughout, adapted by Moonsailor. I didn't think the music on this one was as amazing as '95 (which I think deserved some serious awards), but the arrangements keep it in line with the Pixel Ripped feel and tie everything together very well.
If you've played and enjoyed Pixel Ripped 1995 (or thought that '95 would have been better with 1st-person movement), then '78 is money well spent.
Reverb G2 (NVIDIA 2080), no issues.
