Pinball FX: Universal Pinball - TV Classics Review (Kronark)
This pack is unfortunately a mixed bag and I wish I could give it a score between positive and negative. I'm leaning toward negative just because I really only like 1 of the 3 tables. To note I'm not a fan of any of the shows in this pack. So I'm approaching this as an outsider.
Knight Rider is the clear standout. The music, voice work, presentation, and audio cues are so spot on with a fun table underneath. It just feels cool to play and although I'm not a fan of the show the KITT call outs feel appropriate. If there's a table to buy this pack for alone this is it.
Xena is a bit mixed. The table presents well and generally has good audio work. There are a few voice lines that just go on and on. Some of the dialog also made me cringe but that's due to the source material and not anything Zen did. Presentation aside though I find the table a little boring to play. The symetrical layout doesn't do anything special and a lot of the table seems to be moving targets / pop up targets. This table might do it if you're a Xena fan but I found it a bit flat.
Battlestar Galactica is the loser of the pack to me. To start with it just looks like one of the ugliest tables Zen has released with most of the table being flat gray and modes sometimes color shifting the entire table with lighting. The voice work sounds like they couldn't get the rights to the original show (Again not a fan so not sure), but overall the voice acting just sounds flat. The presentation on this table is a fail and it failed to sell me a story or get me invested. Fans might feel differently knowing the source material. The table plays... Fine. I didn't find it mechanically exciting as it's just a bunch of generic ramps. The turret minigame in the center feels kinda janky to aim with the left / right cannons having a wider gap than the targets. Overall, despite the gameplay feeling average I'm just not going to play the table much because of how much the presentation puts me off. I would recommend the Star Wars, Star Trek, or Homeworld tables over this one for Sci-Fi fans.
If you're willing to throw down $20 to get the Knight Rider table or you're a huge Xena fan then pick this pack up. If you're not willing to throw down $20 on Knight Rider though there are much better tables / packs you could pickup for Pinball FX though.
