Payday 3: Fear & Greed Heist Review (TD Da Wolf #FreePalestine)
Payday 3 is objectively worse than Payday 2. I will change my review when Payday 3 is at least as good as Payday 2.
If you care about Payday 3, then force Starbreeze to make it better by leaving a negative review to impact their sales.
Payday 3's issues since Day 1:
Barely any heists
- We have only 16 (10 at launch) short heists with little replayability
- Very little RNG elements in heists, especially non-dlc heists
- Why can't we have Payday 2 level variety on how to complete heists (multiple escapes/breaches)?
- Payday 2 has over 70 heists
No Multiday Heists
- Payday 3 should have been released with at least 30 heists, 10 being multi-day
Most heists are short
- I can solo most in under 12 mins on the hardest difficulty easily
Live Service only
- Even Solo mode requires a ping before and after the game, often failing
- Matchmaking was terrible, became bad and is terrible again now with crimenet
- Want to host a lobby? Get ready to wait several minutes...
- random disconnections, single lost network packet can disconnect you
- 150ms lag feels like 600ms lag in any normal game
- 5 min heist loading
- UI freezes when loading, sometimes infinite
- long loading if 1 player has bad internet
- Sometimes instant disconnection after joining a lobby
- Still have the can't ready up bug sometimes
Obvious game breaking bugs take forever to fix:
- Cook off has had crashing issues since launch
- Cook off escape van IS STILL BROKEN since 9 months ago (maybe fixed today)
- Diamond District stuck door
- Invisible enemies
- Countless stuck objectives
- UE4 is a decade old and very stable, bad Starbreeze code crashing game
- It feels like little to no QA is done before releasing and update
- Forget PD2 hotfixes, never had any
No heists with large maps
- At least a 5/30 should be large maps
Few interesting heists
- No real creativity for the jobs the gang does
- Execution (ie drilling/hacking) is also pretty boring
- Why are there still wifi circles after a whole year???
No Preplanning
- Can only order basic assets without placing them
Many missing PD2 mechanics like driving
AI teammates are stupid
- Cannot be instructed to wait and don't help with objectives
- Sometimes don't even revive you if you are downed
- Often broken/stuck (Fear & Greed)
- Cannot have their loadouts, weapons or skills changed
Enemies are bland
- Crowds of bullet sponge swat that do little damage to players
- Only new special is the Nader (who was broken for most of this year)
- Tasers are now called Zappers and are barely a threat
- Only one variant of Bulldozer with an auto-shotgun
- Bulldozers can only target a single player and are slow to retarget
Cloakers are too buggy
- Attack through walls/corners
- Always target players even if you're the last one
- Can't be heard that well (were silent most of this year)
- Can only be stopped by a one shot kill when they close charge you
- Spawn from the same closest location every wave end so are easy to expect
Heisters to play as are lacking
- Only 7 playable heisters, PD2 has 22
- Voicelines are bland and few
- Barely any situational voicelines and no banter between heisters
Skills are super bland and boring
- No drill skills, Inspire, Joker, Pistol Messiah or any interesting skills for that matter
- I personally hate the new Armor plate economy, PD2 armor was perfect
- No perk decks to make cool builds
- No infamy system/rewards
- Too easy to become 150, other players' renown levels hidden
- Edge, Grit, Rush effects are an unnoticeable 10%
Music is acceptable but worse than PD2
- Only dlc heists have good music + Diamond District
- No ability to change heists' music
- No access to PD2/PDTH soundtrack
The UI is still bad
- No number stats of weapons in UI, have to look these up online
- Can't move guns around/sell preset guns
- Weapons have same inventory icon regardless of which mods/skins are on it
- Way too many large buttons/text which lead to unnecessary sub-pages and submenus
- Can't manage party/other players directly from main menu/esc screen
- No value of items shown when grabbed/secured
- Separate control for marking than interacting unlike PD2
- Kicked to main menu after heist (can opt-in and wait 60s to form party which nobody does)
Few weapons
- No melee weapons at all
- No saw
- Very few guns and the meta ones are all DLC
- Same high fire rate and one shot kill weapons used for Overkill
- No weapon lasers nor flashlights
- Weapon sights cannot have the reticle changed at all
- Secondary weapons all crazy suck except for DLC ones since Houston Breakout
- No exciting weapons like Flamethrower, RPG or medieval weapons
- Since day 1 we've begged to get rid of the OVK weapon system
- No weapon skins that allow you to freely change mods
Few Throwables
- Grenade barely does any damage
- No cool throwables except the shock grenade
- Only get 2 knives which break when hitting a wall
Few achievements:
- Despite the little content, there should still be more achievements
Equipment sucks
- Ecms are now useless, except disabling one camera you can reach
- Infrasonic mines that you manually detonate to temporarily stun instead of tripmines
- No c4
- Sentries are now a deployable so nobody uses them over Armor Bags
Few masks
- Most masks are overdone and feel too ridiculous to ever wear
- Very few patterns to choose from
- Preset masks cannot be customized
- No interesting materials
No Deathwish
- Overkill is way too easy, never had to first play other difficulties
- FBI van is stupid easy
Modifiers can't be changed
- For the last few months, almost every heist has the 2 specials and blinding shield modifiers
- I would like to enable all of them for more pay, they can't be changed
Pros over PD2 (this is why I would accept at least 30 heists vs PD2's 70 at launch)
+ Graphics gorgeous compared to PD2 but very unoptimized (ppl with 4080s are getting lag spikes)
+ Mask off stealth has more depth but now stealthing is way too easy
+ More heists with code locks which are cool to guess
+ Hostage system is better
+ Final Wave mechanic to make securing all loot harder
+ Fixed Naders are a cool threat
+ Bulldozers can melee kick and charge players
+ Cool animations when doing most interactions
+ Microcams/motion sensors useful and pretty cool
+ Shields have window to take them out through
