Payday 2: Mountain Master Heist Review (BlizzProtogen)
10/10 From a loud perspective. This heist is 100% my favourite in the COG Campaign and a perfect finale! Yes, there's a few bugs, but they're sure to be fixed within the next few days.
To start off, the music, as usual, never disappoints. Gustavo has definitely kept the good music streak going since Viklund left, and now the Mountain Master track (Showdown Inferno) has the shot at becoming my favourite track from Gustavo, and one of my favourite tracks in all of Payday 2!
The setting of the heist is phenomenal. A giant skyscraper where Yufu Wang, the boss of the Triads resides. Overkill makes use of loads of space on the floors present on the heist. There's also loads of decoration which fit in with the Chinese Triad style, giving it bonus points in the setting.
Some Spoilers for the COG Campaign ahead:
The story in the COG campaign hasn't been to complex except from, "Hey guys is me Vlad, let's go get revenge on those Triads!", but in this heist in particular, even though we had barely heard from Yufu Wang up until now except from a few lines from Ukrainian Prisoner & Black Cat, Wang in this heist has a handful of lines where he directly talks to the Payday gang with an attitude of bigness and danger, bringing back vibes like the Commissar's from the Hotline Miami heist from way earlier in Payday 2's lifespan. Near the end of the heist, we also get an amazing final confrontation with Wang which I won't spoil. One negative I can think of though is that this 'Shayu' lady we only first heard about in the Developer Update is also the contractor of the Mountain Master heist. The problem is that we haven't heard much about Shayu except from the fact she's the Underboss of the Triads and she wants Wang dead to end the war with the Payday gang as it's caused too much damage. I would of preferred it more if we got more info about her, maybe from Jiu Feng as he hasn't played a major role since Ukrainian Prisoner, his last heist.
One final point to bring up is optimisation. I don't have much of a problem with optimisation since I have decent specs and a 4GB VRAM patch on Payday 2, but I have noticed the frame rate going in between 90 to 70 at times. While this is fine to me as I haven't noticed a dramatic loss of frame rate, some people on lower specs could have some problems, so beware.
To conclude, yes, just buy it. And if you don't want to buy it, join a lobby ASAP. This DLC was phenomenal and I cannot wait for the brand new Texas Heat campaign to begin! After Texas Heat, we could also be seeing Payday 3 arriving too!
