Payday 2: Hostile Takeover Heist Review (JAG)
Right off the bat — I wouldn't say Hostile Takeover is worth the asking price. I enjoyed the heist overall, but not *that* much.
Hostile Takeover is a very vertical heist, in terms of both map design and objective structure. While the map itself is comparatively tiny, none of it really goes to waste, serving as a space for completing objectives, getting extra loot, or just plain traversing.
The commendable gimmick this time around is the open-ended and flexible objective structure. The objectives are the same in both stealth and loud, which isn't too exciting, but literally all of them can be done in any order, or — with enough players — simultaneously, with proper teamwork allowing for incredibly fast runs. The suggested time for multiplayer is less than 4 minutes, but something tells me it can be taken even lower than that. Knowing things in advance feels more rewarding here than in any other heist in the game.
The map itself is... nothing too special, but it works. It nails the aesthetic that it's going for, there's a decent amount of cover to go around (although there could clearly be more, armor players aren't gonna find this one too fun), and most of the objectives aren't located in the open as if they're expecting the player to use Inspire or Swan Song as a crutch.
Gustavo Coutinho once again knocks it out of the park with Backlash Ink. While it's no Deadeye or Dark Light Strike, it's still a track that works well both standalone and as an absolutely bangin' choon that accompanies the events of the heist.
It's not all flawless, though, of course. With the exact same objectives and secondary loot comes the fact that this heist is just... not very replayable, at all. It feels like there's so few RNG elements that I might even forget about its existence in a week.
Overkill also really went ham with the civilians this time around. There's a lot of them, probably even more than in Big Bank, and they're everywhere, making both stealth and loud a frustrating experience.
