Payday 2: Armored Transport Review (Jakapoa)

tl:dr

Four amazing masks.
Three forgettable weapons.
Five ok loud heists.
One of the worst heists ever.
Outshined by later free additions.
Opinion: Buy this in the legacy collection. Otherwise skip it.
I played this back in the day, will rate both off of how it was then and how it is now.

All of these weapons are available at reputation 0, which is a nice bonus.

I would call the commando "ok". It has a large ammo pool and decent stats, but its low accuracy has always been a pain. You can max it out to 72, but you have to trade off a lot of stability and other stats to reach that. The iron sights are also one of the worst in the game. The only reason I ever use the commando is because it's one of the few weapons available at reputation 0. Otherwise there are much better alternatives (free & DLC) available.

This was a good addition back in the day. It was the highest damaging SMG at the time, and was a good fallback weapon to have.
Today however, there are a lot more high-damage alternatives available. I personally find that the Jackal (DLC) performs better both concealed and loud, as it had more modifications and more manageable recoil. It's also annoying that this SMG doesn't have fire-mode options, which limits usability in certain builds.

Man, I loved the Gruber. It was the best pistol for stealth back in the day, with the best concealment rating. Pretty decent stats to boot, aside from the damage. Plus it's the PPK, which looks rather nice.
Today you have many more options to choose from. The Judge (free) and Gecko (DLC) are now the better alternatives.

Masks

These masks are top-tier and are still personal favorites of mine. They look great, and are actual masks you can actually buy irl, and criminals would actually use. They are iconic and are great additions.

Music

This DLC added Armed to the Teeth. This is still one of my personal favorites, and with the music update can thankfully be played anywhere now.

Heist

This DLC adds six new heists, five of which are just the same heist with a different layout each time. These five heists are all loud, and see you breaking into multiple armored trucks in various layouts. There are some issues, like how there's not much cover on most of the heists, or how the police can swarm you from pretty much every direction like on crossroads. It's also incredibly easy to cheese them nowadays with c4 and saws, which makes the heists fall completely flat.
Objectives
Open the trucks via drilling or 4 shaped charges.
Using c4 will destroy two lockboxes.
Open lockboxes via lockpicking or saw.
Secure loot (set amount required per difficulty).
Escape!
As you can see, it's all relatively simple. The biggest challenge comes from defending areas that have little cover, and even when opening the boxes you typically have no cover as well.
Now, I want to bring up the experiment that Overkill tried with these heists that they never used again. When opening one of the deposit boxes in a truck, you could happen across an intel file. Picking up that intel file would unlock a bonus day 2. This bonus day feature was never used again, mainly because everyone hated it. People would often avoid picking up the file because nobody wanted to do day 2. This feature has been since removed and the train heist is now available as a standalone heist.
All aboard the PTSD train
Train heist.
The FUCKING train heist.
This heist had so many issues both back then and now.
Objectives
Loud
Locate vaults inside the train cars via drilling the doors. Two keycards can be used if found.
Wait for thermal lance and drill the vault (out of three possible).
Secure the turret.
Secure a set amount of shells (new as of U#57).
Escape!
Stealth
Same as above, but a hard drive can hack the vaults open as long as the alarm isn't raised.
RNG Skill Mess
The train heist can be done in both loud and stealth. However, back in the day skill profiles weren't a thing, so you couldn't switch to a stealth build if you did day 1 loud. You have to purposefully run through a loud day 1 with stealth skills for the random chance to get the stealth day 2. This sucked and lead to most people not even attempting to stealth day 2. God forbid you got this as a pro job. Thankfully this is no longer an issue, and stealth is actually the preferred way to do this heist now.
The valley of death
This map is incredibly open. The only cover available near the vault objectives is in the train cars themselves, as snipers and cops can easily take potshots at you if you stay anywhere on the bridge. The valley below the bridge also has next to no cover, which makes going down there a death sentence. And least we forget, back in the day your only escape option was a boat at the bottom of that valley. Today a truck will arrive near the warehouse, which has much more cover.
Explosive Goodbye
Back in the day, shell bags would explode if they were in the air for too long. This meant you had to slowly and monotonously slide each bag along the bridge, down the steps, and slide them to the boat. There was very little cover throughout this whole process, and was extremely tedious. Thankfully this has since been removed. It was an interesting mechanic, but the map made it an aggravating mechanic to deal with instead of something fun to play around.
tl;dr: Don't play this loud. It hurts.

Conclusion

The guns were good at the time, but newer additions have since made them rather obsolete. The heists were fun back then, but don't really bring anything unique compared to later heists. Plus they are rather trivial with newer skill and weapon additions. Fuck train heist.
Today, I honestly only think the masks are the only thing worth getting in this pack. Given how it's only $2 nowadays, it'd call it okay for what you pay for. Buy it as part of the legacy collection if you really want it.
