Paleo Pines Review (MichelleUnicorn)

I've been looking forward to this game since I saw a preview a couple months ago and for the most part I'm not disappointed. I'm recommending in the hopes that with the support the devs might address a couple of the aspects that I think need more polish.
Positives:
-Good, cute graphics. It's not the next Horizon Zero Dwan but it doesn't have to be. It reminds me a lot of Slime Rancher graphically.
-Good variety of cute dinosaurs
-Unique/cute mechanic of the dinosaurs helping you on the farm
-Dinosaurs feel different and unique not just reskins of eachother
-Lots of different color variations to collect
-Very low key, low stress fun and exploration. It's like Slime Rancher meets ARK Survival Evolved
What The Devs Can Improve:
-Building. It's kind of painful to build the pens. I wish I could move the camera more freely instead of having to physically move my character. Pens could also do with a sign or something on the outside that you could check for things like size/biome tpye/food type etc. I know you can check this in the journal but it's tedious to do so at times.
-Dinosaurs path/collide strangely with the decor/sleeping spots and can get stuck/have a seizure(visually) on some of the stuff you put in the pens
-Lack of pen decor/sleeping spot/trough variety. This game definitely suffers mid/late game from a lack of anything to work toward outside of the dinos. None of the decor really feels all the special or exciting or anything to work toward really. You get the same bonuses regardless and none of it really has a big "wow" factor.
-Can't customize your house because you can't go inside it at all. They still give you indoor decor despite this? Which just feels weird. I don't want to build a kitchenette and library in my dino pens. I want to put it inside my home.
-Quests are repetitive and boring. The rewards kinda suck too. They usually just end up filling up my inventory with seeds I don't really need. They are definitely not at all generous with the currency either, usually 30-60 is all I get for the few quests that DO give money.
-Value of money feels really weird and skewed. Saddles are only 250 (in addition to getting them as quest rewards all the time I think I have like 10+ of them rn) but a wheat seed is 1000?
-NPCs feel pretty flat and boring. I don't know or care who half of them are. I remember them based on their dinosaurs.
-Kind of small exploration areas and they have loading screens. I don't really care about the secrets/artifacts/etc either. They're just sparklies to pick up.
It feels like the devs released Paleo Pines with dlc/expansions in mind. Which honestly I wouldn't really hate. The game has a lot of potential for events with special dinosaur skins for different times of the year or new areas with new dinosaurs and secrets. I think the game not having much of a story is fine but they should really lean into the collecting aspect. That's part of what makes a game like Slime Rancher work so well. I want more stuff to work for and collect besides just dinosaurs. Better pen decor (with bonuses maybe?), furniture and a better place to put it, ranch upgrades/buildings, outfits etc.
It's a good game and most won't regret buying it in my opinion but it could be a GREAT game with a little love and polish.
