Oxygen Not Included: Spaced Out! Review (Flytrap)

The thing i was so staunchly against when the DLC came out ended up being what i love the most about it.
Smaller asteroids, and more incentivized space travel. I cannot understate how much that changes the game. The base game's asteroid is too big, it has too much space on it, gives too much leeway for players to do whatever. The spatial restriction makes the game feel more dynamic, and pushes the player forward and thats excellent.

The radiation system im not sold on though, i must say. On one hand, having to stay clear of irradiated areas is cool, and bouncing radioactive projectiles around your base *sounds cool*, but its a pain in the ass. It takes an obscene amount of energy to charge it up, aside from shinebugs or harvesting the passive radiation of the tiny speck of uranium ore you get, you cant really do much. You could gather the uranium ore and use it to get radiation that way, but that still requires a lot of time, and it slows the tech tree research TO A CRAWL. On top of this, you get a measly 1 ton of uranium ore, which in total is only good for like 5-8 researches, and then your entire asteroid is out of the stuff, and you're forced to stop playing around with new things from the tech tree and go look for more elsewhere, which is very laborious.
Want to have your materials study terminal in the same room as the other research buildings? Hah, no you wont! Either it will irradiate your entire building by doing that, or you'll need to create one tile wide 'chutes' in your base where you're bouncing the radbolts around like the energy spheres in portal. Not. Fun. Especially because they lose their energy FAST, and they used to lose that energy EVEN FASTER in the past.
I want to atleast get the essentials before i leave the planet, not having oil is one thing, i can get around that with alternative means, but there are no alternatives to radbolts. You need them to power your third tier research building, and thats it. You only have 1 measly ton of uranium ore on your asteroid, or none at all? Have fun doing things at a snails pace asshole!
The passive radiation system is great, the radioactive radbolt projectiles are absolute ass.
Recommended because its generally great, but the buildings needing radbolts is just awful, and until it gets changed, i doubt the DLC is going to have a rating better than mostly positive. Its well-earned.
