Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission Review (DJDeeJay)
First impressions are unfortunately poor.
Controls do not seem at all suited for Valve Index.
The initial menu area seems to have various things to play with that have no interactivity (various targets). There appear to be various items to grab and throw, but I could not find a throw button.
I need to almost point my wrists downwards in order to aim straight forwards. I actually could not even complete the first mission as it was so uncomfortable.
Buttons seem to show Oculus controls, as they reference pressing the "X" button, which the Index does not have. It also shows what appears to be the oculus controller in the tutorial menu (again, despite playing on the Index).
The motion to reload (swinging the gun / controller downwards) frequently causes grenade mode to activate. Activating grenade mode is squeezing the grip, which while a button on the occulus is fine, but on the Index it's touch / force activated, which is problematic.
I could not find any button that would pause the game. So I had to wait to get killed in order to choose "no" to continuing to see if there were any options in settings pertaining to these problems, which there did not seem to be.
It's a shame. I was excited when I saw this as a have many memories of playing Operation Wolf on the NES. I'm hoping these issues can be addressed, otherwise it's probably going to be refunded.
Update: It's been pointed out to me the Index controllers aren't actually listed as supported. So I'll be refunding, and any of my complaints are likely a non-issue as long as one is using one of the listed supported controller devices.
