Once a Porn a Time Review (Fizzboks)
I'm not a big fan of the game. I felt quite let down by its execution in many facets.
The characterisation did not feel all that strong, and apart from near the beginning with the first character, the 'corruption' of the princesses felt too rushed and their change to horniness did not occur in a way that felt naturally paced.
It is strange how so much of this game seems to imply it to be a lot bigger than it ends up being. I know there's another chapter (and more on their way maybe after that) as separate games, but I don't see why that should have impacted the design of this game in particular. The world map selection of where to visit the fairy tale/princess characters is all concentrated in one region of the globe you see, implying more that never happens.
Many areas feel used for one small thing and then are just there to access and do nothing with.
The drone material and cosmetic system is weird and underdeveloped. The automatic drone you get requires very frequent maintenance which defeats the whole purpose of it being automatic, so you can't even just focus on the story. You get these character discs while using the drone which you're supposed to use for making new characters, but you only really do that like a couple times. It feels unnecessary.
I dislike how little you can do in a day. You visit, frequently just do one little thing which has no excuse to postpone to the next day, and then that's it and you can't visit the character anymore for the day
I really did not enjoy the porn scenes all that much. There's two reasons. The first is that the characters are too underdeveloped such that their personalities are bland enough to make them basically interchangeable characters to me and so the enjoyment wears thin. Secondly the way it is shown. There is this flipbook animation style that's kind of gone for, where the scene flips between two versions to give an illusion of movement going on, (think handjob) but it's clunky and takes away from the erotic element of the scene. I was disappointed that you couldn't revisit the teasing requests for princesses, as the parts where you get them to act against their original prudence little by little were some of the better moments of the game.
Also ngl I wasn't there for the couple side characters which are only very loosely related to the theme, yet they took up a lot more time. I played the game to enjoy in the tongue and cheek fantasy of corrupting familiar fairy tale characters, seeing the absurdity of how excessively innocent and naive they are be flipped and slid around, but instead I had to waste my half my time with the other unrelated characters and the grind of getting the story to move along. Sometimes it was like satiating myself with breadcrumbs. The character select screen makes it seem like you're going to be able to pick and choose who to go to and do things, but in reality the game is very linear.
IDK, I don't think it was worth it. The concept was great, but wasted. I get it's hard to make a game like this, but in that case I would have enjoyed a fleshed out version which only has one princess, and explores that to its full potential, rather than try to fit in all this 'content', and have it feel always noticeably half-baked.
