Old Skies Review (Skybii)
Really loving this game so far!
I love detective and investigation games, and this one certainly delivered. Reminds me of the classic LucasArts adventure games but with a ton of QoL features that enhance the experience. Having the characters remember codes to input them being one I really appreciate. The game runs fantastically on the steamdeck and the controls make sense, but usually means I'm playing it somewhere I don't have a piece of paper handy. While I'm not far yet, I love the concept and character conflicts they're setting up and I can't wait to play more.
Every once and a while you can totally tell a game was a pure labor of love, and it is in every corner of this game. So far the whole game has been voice acted, including your character having opinions about some random piece of junk you clicked on. The animations feel rotoscoped and nostalgic in all the right ways while still feeling very smooth and polished -- not to mention so many cool action shots! The design and aesthetics capture mood and vibes of each time period through a unique narrative lens that's really interesting. I thought I would be disappointed when the first case took me to 2024, since it doesn't feel very time travel-y. Fia's opinions on everything made it feel fresh and fun, looking at our life with a historical POV. Also, holy cow, the environments. Seriously. Stunning. Wow!
