Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty Review (AoEden)

8/10 A Faithful Remake.

The Oddworld games hold a very special place in my heart, as Oddysee and Exodus were games i grew up playing. This really scratched the itch of wanting to replay the old games while giving it a fresh modern look. This is a one for one recreation of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, and it pulls it off very well. Every scene was full of beautiful art, which would make the original proud. The gameplay felt fantastic despite the developers taking some liberties with changes to mechanics and levels to make it work seamlessly in the modern era.
Levels were changed to be side scrolling instead of being whole levels consisting of a collection of single screens. It was a change that I was skeptical about before buying and it was actually a very welcome change.

There are some issues with the game running over 40 fps. Sometimes, when taking the intended route, you will just die from the obstacle killing you before you can even get close to safety. A capped frame-rate is the way to go. Sadly, this forces my scoring to drop as a fairly small game released in 2014 should be able to support 60 fps gameplay at a minimum.

All in all, I absolutely love this game. I had a great time getting 100% of the achievements and really pushing myself with some of the harder ones.

Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty receives a high recommendation from a beloved fan.
