Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus Review (GameBoyAdv4002)
"Objectively" the best Oddworld game, even if I prefer Stranger's Wrath, New 'n' Tasty and Soulstorm. But make no mistake, this is classic stealth platforming at its best, and it absolutely blows its predecessor out of the water. The repetition, claustrophobia and unreactivity of of Abe's Oddysee is solved with a quicksave feature that reduces iteration time, a wider variety of locales, dozens of new mechanics, more space given in each area, a far smoother and more friendly gamespeak system, and less beginner-trap laden level design. Topped off with a soundtrack that fits the game like a glove and a healthy sense of humour, this game has all you'd want from this genre.
That being said, there are problems. I may ha praised the more open spaces, but quite frequently you'll find that they're too wide, leaving to a lot of time spent holding a direction and the run button with little to see or do. This plays into the game's terrible pacing, almost every area overstays its welcome. Remember what I said about the greater area variety. About that, the first half of the game almost entirely takes place is same-looking cold coloured caverns, and the gameplay is too slow/too repetitive to make up for it. Story wise, this game has perhaps the least to say out of all the series. By no means distractingly bad, and it is entertaining on its own terms, but not as deep as what the other games have.
