Northgard: Hræsvelg, Clan of the Eagle Review (Bregil)
I have to agree with many of the other reviews. There are some interesting ideas here but the implementation leaves much to be desired.
1: The Boneyard healing is somewhat useful in the early game for pushing out into neutral zones without needing a healers hut. Against enemy clans, however, it is of only marginal utility as it only kicks in once you have definitively won the combat and uncolonized the zone. In that sense, it seems intended to facilitate follow-on attacks rather than winning the fights in the first place. (It seems to be a "rich-get-richer" mechanic like the old Stag Clan relic that was changed because it helped you win faster when you were already winning but didn't actually help you win in the first place.)
2: This "agile" clan really has to play more like a steamroller. This is because none of their neutral zone abilities work unless the zones have been cleared of hostile units. In theory, Falconers are supposed to scout the map, seal wolf dens/drauger tombs without colonizing, and retrieve Buried Caches full of valuable resources. In practice, you have to kill all neutrals on the tile to do any of these things (meaning that you have to field a sizeable early army to the detriment of your economy). To make matters even worse, it is VERY common even early on for the caches to randomly spawn all over the map (including in the territory of enemy clans) meaning that you have to conquer your way to each one that you want to retrieve. I can very easily see an Eagle player inadvertently clearing the map of hostiles for the ultimate benefit of their enemies. The Training Field unique tech is particularly egregious in this regard (+1 happiness for each unclaimed zone adjacent to your territory with no hostile units). Either this is an extremely temporary bonus that only lasts until the enemy takes advantage of your generosity in clearing a zone for them or you intentionally handicap yourself by leaving unclaimed zones behind your front line. Either way, it does not feel very beneficial to you, the one that spent Lore to unlock it.
As a final note, this clan is definitely not newbie-friendly despite the rating that Shiro has given it for ease of learning. Unlike any of the other clans I have played, I was flailing around (A LOT) just trying to figure out what I was doing. All other clans I have tried, the basic mechanics were clearly explained in the tool tips. Eagle's tool tips really need revised from the perspective of a new player rather than a dev that already knows what all of the mechanics are and how they work. It took me half the match just to figure out how the Boneyard mechanics work (despite "Boneyards" being referenced 4 separate times between the in-game clan description and several unique techs). At no point did the game ever tell me that you can trigger a boneyard by killing a hostile unit in one of your colonized zones. I had to figure that out accidentally. Considering how big of a role that one thing plays in Clan Eagle's mechanics, that's a problem.
There are other complaints I could mention but it's late and I need to turn in.
TL/DR: Very much in need of some fine-tuning and polishing to become a balanced and reasonable clan. In it's current state, it seems to spend half it's time making expansion easier for everyone else.
