No Man's Sky Review (Comradovich)
I have played for 1666.2 hrs. Would I recommend this game? Yes. I do not recommend the Steam boards for this game. They are a bit toxic. You are better off looking at YouTube, Reddit, or Twitch for the community. We are out there, you just have to find us.
This game has made up for its launch hundreds of times over. It is objectively good. It keeps winning awards year after year for a reason. It has a slightly different business model than Bethesda, EA or Rockstar. Hello Games make money when they sell new copies of the game. That's it. Everything else you can earn by playing the game. There is no cash shop, no paid expansions, and no subscription services. It's downright democratic. (Also, the best discount on Steam is 50% off. Worth it even for full price).
The game has a yearly cycle. This cycle has four big updates a year. And we're not talking they gave you a cash shop outfit as an update. Last year they made an entirely new class of starship, everybody got to find as many of these as they wanted to in game. Year before that they gave us dungeon crawls in space. They just gave us another new class of ship, and two new weapons. They'll completely redo the way base building works, and it'll be weird at first, but you'll learn and it'll be better than it was. Four times a year, a new "Expedition" mode. Like a challenge version of the game with permanent account unlock prizes. This is the way it's been every year. It is wonderful.
Every end of October, they go on vacation until mid-February or early-March. Shortened versions of the year's expeditions will run while they're out. Game isn't dead, everyone's getting smashed in Ibiza. They'll be back with an update once they sober up again. Again, every year. Haven't failed us yet.
The game not only appreciates its modding and glitching community, they actively support us doing both. If you figure out how to do something in game by mashing three buttons together, they'll not only congratulate you for it, they'll show your base off to other players in the multi-player hub. Now everyone gets to see what you did.
If you want to figure out how to build something, there's a video by Beeblebum. Need to know how to do a thing fast? XaineWorld's got you covered. Want to cheat? Say hello to Professor Cynical. Just need to know how to chill? There's SuvivalBob, JasonPlays, CaptainSteve, ScottishRod, and on and on... It's a big party in here, come join us.
