Neptunia: Sisters vs. Sisters Review (Matturi)
My Honest Review of Neptunia: Sisters vs Sisters
As a long-time Neptunia fan, I truly want to love and support this game—and in many ways, I did enjoy it. The story kept me engaged, and I appreciated the familiar charm of the series. However, there were moments where the experience became really frustrating.
The battle system starts off feeling slow and a bit clunky, but it does get better as you unlock better gear. Battles gradually become smoother and more dynamic. I highly recommend developing discs that boost currency, HDD time, and EXP gain. With these, you’ll level up faster and progress more easily.
One of the more frustrating parts of the game is when all your party members leave, and you are left controlling only Nepgear. These solo sections happen multiple times and can feel unnecessarily punishing, especially when enemies spam attacks with little to no cooldown. It turns normal encounters into exhausting challenges that require precise timing and reflexes to avoid being cornered.
Another big letdown for fans is the handling of certain characters. IF and Compa, two long-time fan favorites, are present in the story but are not playable —they only appear in event scenes. Even more frustrating is that Maho and Anri are playable in the Switch version, but not in other versions. Their exclusion from the main roster in those versions feels like a missed opportunity and creates an uneven experience between platforms.
I played the game on the Steam Deck, where it ran well overall. However, on a Windows PC, I encountered some frustrating bugs—characters getting stuck walking into ladders or blocks during puzzles, with no way to fix it except some reason when you press printscreen it may work but not always at the first time. Interestingly, those bugs didn’t appear when I played the game on Linux.
Despite these issues, Sisters vs Sisters still has the charm that makes Neptunia special, and it offers a lot for fans to enjoy. But the frustrating solo sections, platform-specific content limitations, and lack of polish in certain areas hold it back from reaching its full potential. I truly hope future updates or entries in the series give more attention to the characters and experience fans love.
