Neptunia: Sisters vs. Sisters Review (BombasticBagMann)
So many Mahos!
This is definitely the least amount of time its taken me to complete a Neptunia game, having beaten all of the rebirths and Megadimension. The usual series critiques also apply here with barebones sidequests, uninteresting dungeons, and an annoying share system to get the true ending.
However, this game brings a lot of good to the table too, like a refreshing new real-time combat system (which I hated at first but it kinda grew on me despite getting hit solely because of long attack ending animations). I would say the story of this game is closely second to Megadimension's story. There really does seem to be a lot of love poured into this narrative, although it does take a long time to actually pick up. See, the first halfish of the story seems surface level on the first run because its setting up so many small little unnoticeable hints throughout. But when the story actually gets going it hits hard without stopping and I love it.
This game has a lot of love in it, despite some classic compile heart weaknesses. IF (see what I did there?) you are here for cute girls hanging out and having funny conversations relating to the real world gaming industry in classing neptunia fashion? Welcome aboard, this game is for you. Do you like being blindsided by an actual meaningful story with huge callbacks to a specific previous game? Lookin at you, Gehaburn. Then you would like this game, although as with my review with Megadimension, I personally would recommend playing all of the mainline games before this so you can truly appreciate the characters, story, and references all the more. Not that you need to, but it really enhances the experience.
That's about all I have to say, and if you do wanna take my advice and play the previous mainlines, here is the order:
Re;birth 1, Re;birth 2, Re;birth 3, Megadimension VII, and then this one. Keep in mind Re;birth 1 and 2 are very same-y, with re;birth 3 only slightly mixing it up, although all of these games do have really fun and interesting stories of you give them the time they need to develop, but now I am leaving the scope of this review.
Happy Nepping!
