In addition, rims and tires, for example, are only available as a set of two. What the impressive light and weather effects hide is that Palm City is a boring city without any major highlights. During the day, the wet asphalt bathes in reflective sunlight, rays of light peek cheekily from behind skyscrapers and palm trees cast long shadows in the street canyons. That looks great, but the nights in Palm City are even more worth seeing. Blue-pink neon lighting shows speeders the way, colorful columns of smoke mark starting positions and the LED lighting of the car bodies cuts through the darkness of the concrete. But the light spectacle, which is wonderful to watch, is cold and ultimately illuminates a lifeless, interchangeable world. In NFS Heat you can find normal street, offroad and drift, which offer you different rewards.

Danach folgt das übliche Prozedere: Man erhöht den Kontostand, indem man bei Tageslicht erfolgreich beim Speedhunters Showdown teilnimmt und steigert beim illegalen Streetracing inklusive Verfolgungsjagden mit den Cops seine Reputation, um sich in der Szene einen Namen zu machen und mit Rangaufstiegen sowohl weitere Fahrzeuge als auch Tuningteile freizuschalten.
Verlässt man die Garage, hat man die Wahl, ob man bei Tag oder Nacht die Straßen der Stadt unsicher machen möchte. Je nachdem stehen unterschiedliche Events zur Auswahl und auch bei den Story-Missionen hängt ein Zugang meist von der Tageszeit ab. Und nicht nur das: In der Regel benötigt man auch einen bestimmten Reputations-Rang, weshalb man nicht selten einen leichten Grind auf sich nehmen muss, um in der mäßigen Geschichte rund um korrupte Cops und Streetracer-Helden voran zu kommen, bei der immerhin die gute deutsche Lokalisierung positiv hervor sticht. Beim Kauf von Fahrzeugen und Tuningteilen muss man sich ebenfalls in Geduld üben, denn zum einen ist die wachsende Auswahl ebenfalls an den Rang gekoppelt und zum anderen ist die Anschaffung nicht gerade billig. Hinzu kommt, dass es z.B. Felgen und Reifen nur als Zweier-Set gibt.Was die ansehnlichen Licht- und Wettereffekte kaschieren ist, dass Palm City eine langweilige Stadt ohne große Höhepunkte ist. Tagsüber badet der regennasse Asphalt in reflektierendem Sonnenlicht, lugen Lichtstrahlen frech hinter Wolkenkratzern hervor und Palmen werfen lange Schatten in die Straßenschluchten. Das sieht toll aus, noch sehenswerter sind aber die Nächte in Palm City. Blau-Pinke Neonbeleuchtung weist Rasern den Weg, bunte Rauchsäulen markieren Startpositionen und die LED-Beleuchtung der Karossen zerschneidet die Dunkelheit des Betons. Doch das wunderbar anzuschauende Lichtspektakel ist kalt, beleuchtet letztlich eine leblose, austauschbare Welt. In NFS Heat findet man normale Street, Offroad und Drift, welche dir verschiedene Belohnungen bieten.
