NanoApostle Review (Risu)
Probably one of my favorite boss rush games ive played. The combat is very fluid and you get the hang of it quite quickly so in the heat of bosses and during second phases its all action and taking advantage of patterns. The bosses themselves are great they fight very differently from each other and have beautiful animations to boot. NO SPOILERS but the story was also pretty good albeit a bit simple, but that self containment makes it pretty effective as well and you do grow to like these characters somewhat.
My main problem with the game (though its not a huge complaint) is that its a little too short. It felt like once you really got to love this game and see where it will take you next its already ending. The game itself is a little easy once your hands get comfortable with the movement and inputs, the difficulty could be increased but if i am to be honest i myself would not know how to do that without inflating health or some other forms of fake difficulty. Some of the boss gimmicks were a little annoying and i think if the game went on a little longer it could have maybe experimented and evolved those gimmicks from past bosses. I also think some of the modules could be tweaked to seem more enticing to pick. Parrying is really strong in this game and the "flasks" of this game being a full heal seems a bit much so most of the healer nodes arent worth it. Some of the negative downsides each module has also feel too punishing or maybe the upsides just arent good enough to compensate? I only really considered 2 or 3 modules out of the build i was constantly running, whenever you unlock new modules theres always a stand out thats just better than the other 2, and it was only near the endgame that i was seriously weighing some options regarding what i want to unlock with my limited skill points.
Overall this is a pretty fun game with some nice movements and if you want a shorter and simpler story this game fullfils that need very well. the game gets a little easy (after id say boss 3?) so if you want a not so insanely difficult boss rush where you can also play some obstacle courses and basic enemy battles this game will be what you want. Very much recommend and the art and music is amazing.
