My Friend Pedro Review (The Zone)
It's an okay game. The first chapter is really good and after the first boss battle the game declines hard.
Story: While not really important in this game, the story starts of interesting but quickly becomes just boring filler.
The OST: forgettable
Gameplay: while it is really fun, it become really samey. While the first chapter has a lot of options on how you approach each situation, a lot of those choices quickly disappear and are just replaced by running into a room and spraying bullets until either everything is dead or you're dead. Other than slow motion, the game's other feature is dual wielding. It's really limited (only pistols and uzi's) but even so it still really fun...until you progress a bit farther into the game and you mostly use double handed weapons because the enemies will become bullet sponges. (a shotgun, sniper rifle, etc...) The weapons feel uninspired and the fact that you can't dual wield all weapons is really disappointing. (ffs, this is game with a talking banana and meta humour, would it really be that immersion breaking to dual wield sniper rifles?)
The last chapter also has a lot of platforming and, oh boy, does it suck.
Graphics/Aesthetics: The graphics are just ok. Even on highest settings it doesn't look all that good. But, my main issue is with the game's tone. From the images/trailers you're probably expecting a psychedelic bloody adventure. Not really. Other than the Pedro's level and the final boss fight, you're just running around an old town, sewers, etc... Basically, almost all of the boring environments you can imagine. Even when the game tires to be all crazy, it mostly falls flat.
Overall, this game is a one-trick pony. Yes, it does what it sets out to do quite well. But other than that there isn't really much here. I did get it on a sale, and the price i paid feels about right. The game isn't bad, it is just disappointing.
