My Friend Pedro Review (Sherlock_B0nes)

My Friend Pedro is a game that was fun enough for a single romp but I do not see myself replaying it any time soon. Even had I been a bigger fan of the mechanics, there really isn't all that much to do once you've beaten the story apart from chasing high-scores and gathering whatever few collectibles you missed the first time around. I'd still go so far as to recommend it but with the disclaimer that its 'overwhelmingly positive' review score is a bit misleading. Like, it's a good game - don't get me wrong - but it's not going to blow your nips off or anything...
In terms of gameplay, I wasn't particularly jazzed about the 'slidey character movement,' clumsy jump mechanics, and over-emphasis on using slow-mo for gunfights. However, I found the gun-play and variety to be satisfying enough that I was able to mostly forgive all the annoying bits. I also give the game props for keeping things fresh throughout the campaign - introducing new weapons, enemies, and other gimmicks at the perfect time when things are just starting to get a bit stale.
All-in-all, My Friend Pedro is a 'good but not great' experience - a 7/10 quality game. If you find yourself thinking of a purchase, I'd recommend picking it up on a hefty sale as I don't think there's enough game here to justify the full price. Alternatively, you might be able to 'get your fix' of what this game has to offer by simply watching someone else get S-Ranks in a YouTube playthrough or something.
