MultiVersus Review (Skullomania)
PFG took all the player feedback from the Open Beta and seemly fixed everything that was criticized , there is a lot of offline content, mini games, a great season 1 battle pass (that you get enough currency to pay for the next season), local game with bots, the perk system was redesigned, a lot of visual polish on the characters and animations, 4 more characters next to the release and a lot of little teasers for coming ones.
But every change that they made on their own made the game worst and less fun:
The combat is slowed down to a halt.
No more skill expression through quick movement, dodge and jump cancels and situational combos. Now matches are decided on the basis of a very slow whiff punishing dance, which in one hand is good since combat is more deliberate and neutral focused, but it's just less fun overall. For me, the best thing about this game was the movement options it gave the player and that is simply gone. (The game is also unbalanced but it's expected on release)
No ranked matches?
It took a long time of open beta to for ranked to finally be added to the game, and it's missing on release, what's up with that?
No Lab
Now we have a training mode with less features, and you can no longer practice with characters you do not own
No Global and Character Rankings on the Career profile
you used to be able to see you raking on a global ranking system, witch was a pretty cool feature, a global high score was a game of itself.
Everything on the end of battle screen
You could see how much damage was done, how many ring-outs, etc. This was a cool feature that should have been enhanced, but it was took out entirely. You also can no longer see when people accept or decline the rematch, you don't have a social menu to add as friend, block or view the profile anymore nor have the option to toast back, It's ALL gone
No Character Select during rematches
During rematches you were able to change character and cosmetics, you had some time to strategise your rematch, see which character would be best, what perks worked and not, and play around with emotes, Skins, badges and etc. It's all gone, if you happen to have a bad match up, all you can do is infinitely rematch, maybe change perks if you did a custom set beforehand
The Zoom
I'm not sure this is a bug or a design decision, but the zoom on the characters when they are close by is so much that it even cuts any of the emotes equipped. It's distracting and you can't see much of the map, on a game that has to many variables of destructible walls and other hazards, it just makes it difficult to plan anything.
There are many more things that I couldn't even be bothered to list, like the fact that PFG took out announcer packs that could only be obtained by buying them with real money, and the UI that is extremely confusing for no reason along with 4 different currency systems.
TL;DR: It looks like a proper F2P full released game, but the game is not as fun anymore, sadly.
