Moss: Book II Review (Pohatu, Toa of Stone)
Great game! If you liked the first one, this one is even better, with new mechanics, more puzzles, and a fantastic variety of beautiful new locations. The combat can be quite fun interacting with the various enemy types and using the "reader" abilities to traverse the environment mid combat can be super fun.
My one criticism is that, as with the first game, the story is told through story book art pages with a narration. As far as I can tell, all the voice work is done by the same voice actress to fit the narration theme, but I wasn't really a huge fan of this as her imitations of different characters came off a little cheesy. Showing the story through static 2D art also doesn't feel particularly engaging. I realize full on animated cutscenes might have been out of the budget for a game like this, but I think there might have been better ways to tell the story that are more engaging visually. Perhaps using 2D art, but having it take up more of the visual real estate and having more movement and visual effects. This is hardly a deal breaker though, and if you really can't bear to sit through the narration, you can easily skip over it by flipping the pages early.
