Metro: Last Light Redux Review (NovaVortex77)

Metro Last Light Review

TL:DR
Buy this game if you like/love
-FPS with other elements.
-A mainly good story line that carries from the 1st part.
-shooting enemies in the head.
Don't buy this game if you dislike/hate
-FPS with mixed game elements (stealth, horror etc)
-linear gameplay structure.
-lack of replay value.

Story Summery
Set 1 year after the events of Metro 2033, Last light continues Artyom's story and what his feeling after the events of the first game, among his own struggles he has to face enemies such as the Neo-Nazis and Neo-Communists. Last light takes Artyom's journey to previously met locations as long with new ones.
Gameplay Overview
Like metro 2033, Last Light is an FPS game set in Post-apocalyptic Russia, with stealth and survival elements.
Players have a vast array of weapons to choose from, shotguns, assault rifles, and a few others, Players can also approach levels either by stealth or guns blazing.
Last light also carries over the linear level driven gameplay along with mild exploration that can reward players with equipment or ammo.
Like Metro 2033 the moral point system returns and functions the same way (good deeds = good points, bad deeds = bad points)
DLC overview
With the Redux remaster all DLC are included upon purchase
Faction Pack
This DLC adds 3 new and original single-player missions, the missions and gameplay are focused around game features, such as shooting, stealth, sniping, and stalking.
Tower Pack
The dreaded Tower pack adds a single long and probably the hardest level in the game,
Mainly a wave based mode/level players take on different waves of enemies or mutants while surviving the onslaught.
Developer Pack
Developer pack mainly adds missons that let you mess around with the game's AI such as battling mutants against each other, or by going to the Shooting range for some gun fun.
Also included is a museum level that showcases stuff you encounter in the game as statues, also part of this pack is 1 new single player level that has a heavy focus on 1 type of enemy.
Chronicles Pack
And lastly but not least my personal all time favourite the Chronicles Pack.
This pack includes 3 new levels that are each focused to characters encountered in the main story, it also expands on the lore and universe that tie in to the main game.
Abzats and RPG machien gun
Nothing much to add here this 2 DLC are just 2 weapons added to the story.

My personal experience
The story picks off almost immediately after the first game as I re-played this after completing the first its a nice way to jump right in. I've enjoyed the story as much as I did the first, but somethings that I notice is the horror element is slightly lacking compared to 2033 in 2033 there are maybe 1 or 2 areas that can make you jump, in last light I barely encountered any scenario that made me jump, there were some surprises like enemies attacking around the corner but that's nothing compared to what you'll encounter in 2033.
As for the gameplay because both Last light and 2033 are redux the gameplay is the same with the FPS and stealth nothing really worth pointing out if you played 2033 redux you won't feel any different here.
DLC wise I've really enjoyed Chronicles Pack each level is unique and tells a different point of view, as for the other packs and DLCS the other one I enjoyed was the Factions pack, the developer pack didn't add much and I got board of it quickly as it doesn't have a story at all.
As for the Tower pack its probably my most dreaded DLC in any game for a while.. even playing on the easiest mode its just utter chaos, it feels unbalanced and slightly unpolished from the amount of damage you can receive, the AI seems to be on steroids also attacking more aggressively then their campaign counterparts.
I had to use well known glitch just to skip the tower level for the achievement.
as for replaying since its a linear game once you complete the story and get all the collectables there's not much replay value.
Thus my rating for last light will be the same as it was for Metro 2033, mainly because it doesn't offer much in terms of story.
Rating: 7.5/10
