Metro Exodus: Sam's Story Review (★ Masih)

Metro Exodus - Sam’s Story is like getting a front-row seat to the chaos of the post-apocalypse, but with a much-needed dose of humor and heart. Sam, the lovable American soldier-turned-survivalist, is on a quest to find his way home, which is pretty much a disaster waiting to happen in the wasteland of Metro Exodus. He’s like that one friend who insists on “just one more adventure” even though you know it’s going to end with a mutant chasing him down a cliff. The story is emotional, sure, but Sam’s tendency to crack jokes while the world is literally falling apart adds a layer of dark humor to the whole experience. Also, if you’re not laughing at the absurdity of trying to navigate a post-apocalyptic world with an old-school radio, you’re probably doing it wrong.
Sam’s Story is a story-driven DLC that focuses on Sam’s journey to return to America after surviving the events of Metro Exodus. Unlike Artyom, Sam is a much more relatable (and sometimes, hilariously misguided) character. The gameplay is pretty similar to the main game—lots of stealth, combat, and resource management—but with some unique twists that add to the depth of Sam’s personal story. You get to explore new environments, from sunken ruins to military bases, all while dealing with Sam’s personal demons and the more absurd aspects of trying to survive in a broken world. The story is rich, and Sam’s journey to reconnect with his past and find his way home gives the DLC a refreshing emotional core. It’s also packed with heart-pounding combat and tense moments as you fight to stay alive against a variety of mutated creatures and hostile factions.
What I absolutely love about Sam’s Story is the way it adds to the Metro Exodus universe while still feeling like its own unique chapter. Sam’s voice acting is fantastic, and the emotional weight of his story really draws you in. The environments you get to explore in this DLC are gorgeous, from vast open areas to intimate, creepy underground spaces, all with that signature Metro atmosphere. The gameplay is just as engaging as the main game, but the added personal stakes and the focus on Sam’s internal struggles give it a deeper connection. If you’re a fan of Metro Exodus or just love story-driven, atmospheric shooters with a touch of humor, I highly recommend Sam’s Story. It’s a perfect addition for anyone who wants to experience a new perspective in the post-apocalyptic world and dive deeper into the emotional undercurrents of survival.
