Metal Mutation İnceleme (Ecstasy816)
I had tried to find alternative game for Hades for a long when I had been waiting for Hades 2 to be completed edition. Finally, I found this game. It's hack and slash, isometric perspective, has alternative weapon, can modify your weapon heavily, each run makes you more powerful. Everything is checked!
The fighting system is quite similar to Hades, but you cannot dash multiple times, so you cannot use it as the safe tactic. This game has parry system instead which is more difficult than it look because the timing is really strict (or I am bad) and each enemies, even have some post before attacking, they have significant different delay before their attack come out which are really quick for reflecting. The projectile types are more easier to parry than melee for this reason. The parry has long delay, so you will be surely be hit hardly if miss. But if the parry is successful, you can hit a attack button, and you will do parry move which is quite strong, and you will be invisible while using that attack, so it is risky but rewarding.
Pro:
- The graphic is OK for Indy game. They game run smoothly. The music is generic, but fine. The character designs is also fine for my preference.
- Other than normal attack, there are many moves which have charging time like tower defense games. You have special weapon move, Valkyrie (the android which follow you) move, gun move, Boss move (like super move). All of them look different if you equip different weapon. Even all weapons are melee type, they feel different enough.
- The "boon" of this game are elements (fire, ice, wind, thunder) which change the style of each moves (listed above) greatly from speed to range and other effect. In addition, the animation changing from each element effect is satisfied me. They have even duo or triple element combination. So this contribute a lot to re-playable factor. In addition, there are non-element boon which improve critical, recover, or other quality effect. Some of them are really good like healing you in some condition. It is rogue-like, so you cannot guarantee which boon you will get for each run. Some of them make your run really different.
- Enemies' variety is good. Some of them have many move, so they are not that predictable. Boss also have many moves.
- You get better by level up from collect exp, and can get variety of passive skill (which can reset anytime). You can equip your defensive equipment which have many grades. Each equipment can add the additional attribute got from enemies' part. These upgrade might not change game play, but good to have their variety anyway.
Con:
- The conversation is a bit not attractive enough to read. I don't sure about the translation because I am not a native speaker, but most of their conversation are quite plain and lifeless. Your character rarely talks, just asks some short questions. Your relationship with other NPCs are nearly no significant. If you prefer story rich, this is not your game.
- The worst thing is some important conversation is shown when you are fighting... and I miss a lot of them in the extent that I don't care anymore.
- No ending scene. (Not 100% sure, but I had beat the final boss (check from trophy) already.
This game is quite easier than Hades for minimum clearing. Your improvement for each run is far quicker than Hades. I finished the game in less than 6-7 loop which is rare because I am really bad player for adventure game. But you still need to do other runs to meet final boss. (I don't sure about the condition, but I have finished the game around 5 times before meeting a final boss). There are difficult modifiers, so you can get a level which suit you if it is too easy anyway. I think there will be more if the modifier is set to higher, but in 9 (from 20+) level I have just finished, this is quite good enough.
In sum, if you like Hades, or Isometric hack and slash, and don't care about a story/relationship, this game is fun enough and worth its price.
