Marvel's Midnight Suns: The Good, The Bad, and The Undead Review (Silenzeio)
The Good, the Bad and the Undead DLC unleashes Deadpool upon the Midnight Suns team. And by far, he is my favourite hero in terms of dialogue and story.
Deadpool is introduced to the team as the Hunter looks into a break in at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, our beloved "Merc with a mouth" already creeping around looking to retrieve an artefact for his client. Joining Deadpool in combat against Hydra and two whole new enemy factions in the Vampyres and Turned Hydra, The Hunter recruits Deadpool (despite objections from both Caretaker and Blade) and brings him back to the Abbey.
Conflicts arise with Deadpool's stay, particularly from Blade as the Merc's unpredictable and non-serious personality clash with the state of the world with Lilith already in the picture, but now a new Vampyre threat.
Deadpool's play-style revolves around a new mechanic called "En Fuego". This is a meter that increases with each KO Deadpool lands. Each rank comes with an increase to the amount of KOs to meet the next but also provides boosts to his cards. However Deadpool loses a rank of En Fuego each time he's hit. This is the only part i don't particularly enjoy of Deadpool's kit, i think it could've been better balanced if it deducted a KO in the current progress bar, removing a stack if no KOs remain and goes back down to the previous rank.
In essence, if you're bringing Deadpool to a mission, you either need to bring a character who can taunt off anyone attacking Deadpool and tank hits destined for him. And if you have no tanks in the mission, KO the enemies before you run out of card plays and have to end your turn.
Deadpool also comes with some powerful Abbey upgrades. His Taco Truck in the Yard can discard a card from your hand once per mission to give a free move or Shove. His combat item Effort Maximizer takes all the cards of a selected hero in your hand, generates copies of them and discards the rest. This can be powerful in circumstances of a hero having multiple quick cards, weak enemies to get free plays from and sweeping the mission.
Talking to Deadpool and hanging out with him provides insights into his backstory, why he tends to be more of a lone wolf and why he seems to push people away with his antics. Not only does your friendship warm him up to being in a team, his combat passive allows him to regenerate health depending on his current En Fuego stacks to keep him in the fight for much longer.
Deadpool also comes with additional outfits based on a cowboy appearance and an X-Force look. The cowboy appearance swaps his pistols out for revolvers which is a nice touch.
To sum up my thoughts, Deadpool's writing, crude jokes that scratch the border of a teen rating, fourth wall breaks and perfect voice acting provided by Nolan North as well as his combat and Abbey upgrades all sum up to an excellent DLC to add to your Midnight Suns experience.
