Marvel's Midnight Suns: Redemption Review (Silenzeio)
Redemption is Midnight Suns' second DLC story pack featuring Venom as a recruit-able hero and more story regarding the Vampyre uprising starting from Deadpool's DLC.
The starter mission for this pack is locked behind completing act 1, which is fair considering the main story itself but something i found a little odd about the middle of this mission and the last half of the second is Mephisto's interactions. If played immediately, it seems The Hunter is more knowledgeable of Mephisto in Venom's story but when Hunter has their actual first encounter during the main story, all of a sudden it's as if Hunter has a bout of amnesia.
Which is odd that the DLC story is open immediately after act 1 and not sometime after the first actual encounter with Mephisto. But i digress.
Venom, after being beaten by Hunter and Spider-Man towards the end of act 1, retreats to the sewers and becomes blood crazed as their connection to Lilith is broken but they still have the demonic appearance. Venom is only restored as part of a deal with the devil, in exchange for ridding the world of the Vampyre threat.
Venom's play-style revolves around their Ravenous meter. The higher the count, the more damage Venom inflicts. Using attack or heroic cards drains Venom of one block of Ravenous. However one block is restored on every turn and there are cards and upgrades which allow for cards to not consume Ravenous, allowing Venom to stay more powerful for longer. Having a strong friendship with Eddie gives a 25% chance of Ravenous not being consumed and allows for Venom's first attack or heroic to not consume Ravenous.
Personally, Venom probably ranks as my second favourite DLC hero. I really liked the cards that were designed and had my thrills when they could KO a full health enemy with one card due to a damage bonus if said target was full health. Immediately deleting someone from the fight. Spike Burst was another fun to use ability for a devastating AOE with the chance to Bind enemies in place for free hits.
Interactions with Eddie in the Abbey reveal a man who hates what he and the Symbiote have done Lilith's influence, his personal history as well as seeking advice about balancing out the darkness within himself and the Symbiote. All in all telling that he wants to protect the innocent, despite what people may think of the methods Venom uses to save others.
This pack also comes with the Whisper Web Abbey upgrades as well as the Symbiote Bomb combat item for research. The Whisper Web can alter your general missions and decrease their difficulty, change out the hero leading the mission or add a bonus reward for completing it at the cost of Intel. Symbiote Bomb allows for a free Bind on any enemy for one turn if you find yourself without any of the three heroes who can Bind enemies. Incredibly niche, but could be useful otherwise.
Venom also comes with a share of bonus skins, one that replicates the demonic appearance from the early game and an anti-Venom based appearance. Venom is the only one of the three fallen heroes who can actually have color swaps on their demonic form, unlike Hulk and Scarlet Witch.
Overall, i liked this DLC and especially Venom's combat. If you want a more lethal hero among the Midnight Suns, be sure to check this out and make friends with a Symbiote.
