MainFrames Review (TheTrueTekno)
I completely forgot where I found this game, but I'm so glad I did. MainFrames is one of the most creative games I've played in a couple years, and given the variety of games I play, that's really saying something. I fully enjoyed the entire game from start to finish. Here's some quick pros and cons:
+Brilliant game concept having a floppy disk jump around windows on a computer monitor
+Controls are simple, snappy and near-perfectly tuned
+Gorgeous, charming art style and soundtrack
+Beautiful wallpaper backgrounds on every screen
+Well designed levels that thoroughly utilize the super simple controls
+Properly balanced difficulty curve that doesn't spike out of nowhere or slug along to get to the good stuff
+Good exploration that encourages you to seek out everything the game has to offer
+Side challenges that make you use your brain and feel super rewarding for clearing
+Lots of collectibles to... uh, collect
+A simple, yet enjoyable main story
+A nice background story that rewards you for paying attention to it
+Nice worldbuilding
+Fun minigames
+Some references, jokes and exploits that got a good laugh out of me
-It's only about 2-3 hours if you're going for everything
-No level replay available (please add in an update)
-Some jumps are a bit too strict
It's definitely a short experience (and might be priced slightly too high for the content it does offer), but it's a very welcome game in this day and age. You can see this as a good palate cleanser if you go between 20+ hour games all the time like me. Definitely a great use of $10, and I would love to see more Floppy.
