Lost Words: Beyond the Page Review (phr0nes1s)
On the surface, Lost Words seem to be made for younger gamers based on the dialogue, game mechanics, pacing of the story etc. But at the heart of it, anyone who has lost someone dear to them can relate to every aspect of the storytelling.
For me, it's a heart wrenching game that brings you back to your own experience of grief no matter how long ago it was and will definitely bring you to tears. It's an overall unique experience and yet very relatable, where you constantly shift from harsh reality to some escape you create and back again - all part of your struggle to find peace in your journey of grief.
That said, the artwork and storytelling are beautiful. The game is basically divided into two worlds where each would have its own mechanics and story. Yet they're related and are mirrors of each other. It's poetic, the themes are well thought through and the game doesn't shy away from exploring a broad range of emotions no matter how raw.
Lost Words is a work of art and it was such an experience immersing myself in Izzy's world. And if this game somehow doesn't help you find your peace completely, other games that I'd recommend would be Gris and Spiritfarer (which btw is one of my favourite games along Ori).
