Long Gone Days Review (Asdfplaya)
Writing this Review ~10h into the game
Visually it's incredible you have this mixup with pixel art in the overworld and
Anime-style sprites in battles and dialogues.
Soundtrack wise i would say fitting. Nothing too special or memorable and since you will be hearing some of them on repeat they are not annoying. (And that's coming from someone that instantly turns in game Soundtrack off as soon as one track is annoying me).
Cutscenes are sparse but this game has some Dialogue, that has to be read. (i will explain later on why it HAS to be read)
Story so far seems kinda generic to me, but this is subjective.
My Gripes with this game:
Gameplaywise:
no reliable way to replenish your MP/SP. That means you can burn your entire pool in a few fight and then run 3+ chapters without any left. A way to solve this: when you go to sleep or some resting event it will replenish HP and SP. the resting events are always prompted with a "Do you want to rest now" Dialogue so the player will know when SP and HP will get replenished as it also give reprieve.
Dialogue:
No way (yet, dunno if it will be coming) to adjust Dialogue speed so you have to sit through every speech bubble and wait for the Text to finish appearing until you can proceed to the next box. This might just be a "me problem" as i set with these kinds of dialogue-appearance to always show the whole textbox... but anyway pacing is entirely controlled by the appearing of the text.
You can kinda compare it to a trailing mission where you are locked to proceed at the speed of an NPC Target where the game is locking you behind its game engine walking speed.
Equipment:
Who can equip what? i have no way of telling what i just got and for who it is. Also equipment seems to be the only way of Progression apart from the few "Level Up" Instances that just seem to happen at random (end of a chapter?).
Items:
You have to play with what you were dealt. I just wish there was a way to exchange items like maybe a store, which are common occurences. Alas there is no currency so they would need to implement a currency system.
Sniping:
So far the sniping mechanic was just used at the start and then never again? (idunno just 10h in)
Well i had this game for a long time on my radar and went into it with wrong expectations, since it's been so long in EA.
So far it's just Auto attack your way through as you have no SP or Auto Attack your way through to conserve your SP as you never know when you replenish it. I just wish the Battle system and RPG elements were a bit complexer, e.g Simple weakness and Strength damage type system, some kind of progression (only progression is like i said better equip) (also why do some civilians that will join you have better stats than from childbirth trained soldiers?) and maybe a store system for items (which would also kinda solve the SP replenish problem).
I think the words which describe this game the best would be "Adventure" with a sprinkle of "RPG-lite".
