Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name Review (Phant0m)
Kazuma Kiryu returns in a story that bridges the ending of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life with Yakuza: Like A Dragon (Yakuza 7) and the upcoming Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (Yakuza 8)
Loving it so far, here's a breakdown of Likes, Dislikes, and Your Mileage May Vary's:
Pros:
- Brawler combat is back, and so is style switching
- Agent style's gadgets are fun when you get the hang of them
- Coliseum is a lot of fun, and you can play as other characters besides Kir- I mean Joryu
- Story does a great job of bridging 6- Like a Dragon- Infinite Wealth
- Infinite Wealth demo is included
- Lots of minigames
- Small things, like the "in-engine cutscenes" (that you can skip with the X/A button) feel much more "cinematic"
Cons:
- YongYea's English Kiryu... not good
- Some frame drops in the Castle. Also, you can't use your phone camera there?
- Combat feels like somewhat of a downgrade to Lost Judgment's fluid and fast combat
- You can't change outfits at Akame's office or in the menu-- you have to go to the Castle and do it at the Boutique
-No New Game Plus
YMMVs:
- Story is much shorter than a traditional Yakuza/Like a Dragon game since this was initially planned as DLC for Infinite Wealth before being developed as an interquel
- Not as many skills for both styles for what I was expecting
- DLSS at 1080p makes the game either looked oversharpened or too smooth. Might just be my hardware though
