Lethal Company Review (sweepinghouses)
Overall: 9/10
Lethal Company is lightning in a bottle. It's an extremely fun and spooky 1-4 player co-op experience (with proximity chat) where you collect and extract scrap from moons of varying danger levels, emphasizing teamwork and survival in a tense, unpredictable atmosphere.
Despite its indie origins and being developed by a SINGLE PERSON, Lethal Company has a unique charm and gameplay loop that provides hours of replayability, featuring randomly generated creepy interiors, enemy spawns/routes, and scrap types/scrap locations. That’s where the magic of Lethal Company truly lies. The complete lack of scripted events makes everything feel so much more immersive, genuine, and horrifying, ensuring you never have the same experience two days in a row.
The terrifying 'anything goes' horror loop is perfectly complemented by the game's eerie sound design, dark visuals, and fluctuating threats, creating an overall environment that’ll keep you on edge until you're sure your ship is officially off the moon.
The scrap quota system also adds an extra layer of challenge, as each quota must be met within three days, with the minimum amount increasing after each drop-off. This means that the higher the quota, the more scrap you need, the longer you stay on the very dangerous moon, and the greater your chances of dying a horrible death.
Alongside its engaging gameplay loop, the creativity and raw effort behind the game design keep you captivated, even if it lacks the polish of larger titles. The different settings and styles of each moon offer their own flavors and come with different creatures on each, which also helps things feel fresh.
All of this without mentioning the amazing mod support Lethal Company has. There are mods that do everything from adding new suits, monsters, scrap types, moons, etc. to completing overhauling the UI and changing things fundamentally, and It is incredibly simple to do so.
TL;DR:
I honestly can’t recommend this game enough. LC is a hilarious and unearthly 1-4 player co-op game that mixes ex-filtration teamwork and horror survival with random, unscripted events in several eerie moon environments full of unpredictable monsters. Its unique gameplay loop, challenging scrap quota system, random generation, and mod support provide hours of replayability and an immersive horror experience! Absolutely a must-play experience with your friend group!
