LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens Review (WeeHammy)
LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens has to be the most fun, creative and reinvigorated Lego game I have played in YEARS. Comparing it to Lego Marvel's Avengers, The Lego Movie Videogame 2 and other recent Lego games.... LST:TFA shows the most affection towards its source material and sticks close to the dialogue from the film using all of this effectively. Below I will state why I think this is the best Lego game I have played in years and any issues I encountered, so, let's get to it.
Pros/Why it is the BEST Lego game in a long time
⚫So first of all, the game follows the film perfectly. While not rushing the player at all. So what I am saying is that the game is really well-paced.
⚫The game uses Dialogue from the movie REALLY, REALLY well. It is not over-used, stupidly loud or even bad (like audio issues e.t.c) it has been done to utmost perfection.
⚫The gags and goofs along the way really made me chuckle from time to time, and this... this is what Traveller's Tales has lost with most recent Lego games. In this game the WHIMSICAL love of Lego gags and goofs are amazing!
⚫The puzzles in this game and their solutions are STELLAR. Coming from Lego Avengers to this... felt like I was dreaming. Using BB-8s ability to open up a door, charge a generator and much much more felt unique. Using Reys staff to make "swing poles" and then using her agility to swing over... aw man... all of the characters abilities felt unique and fun to play.
⚫The game adds in this amazing mechanic, COVER-BASED shootouts that made me feel like I was playing "Gears of War" for the first time again. While doing this you are building up a special attack bar and based on who you are using, it gives that character a cool-looking unique attack.
⚫The game has FLYING levels which are pure fun and frantic! You can engage in open-air dogfights, air races and generally, mow down Tie-Fighters.
⚫Game had Z E R O performance issues whatsoever. No lagging, crashing, stuttering, freezing e.t.c... I was absolutely amazed with how optimised this game was.
⚫The game is filled with cute, smart nods to the Star Wars franchise which kept me playing till my 100%.
⚫You get secret missions which add on to the story which fill certain gaps that was left out of the movie. For example - Poe to the rescue, where Poe goes to rescue Admiral Ackbar. (there are so many more to mention but this was the most memorable)
⚫Has the amazing Star Wars theme and the Mos Eisley Cantina Theme that we have all known to love! (its a little secret mission for the Cantina Theme)
⚫Fantastic COOP! You are not left bored or useless as the "second player".
Cons/Issues?
⚫2 or 3 puzzle mechanics got dull and boring fast. Using an imperial trooper or resistance member on a terminal to make a "holographic stormtrooper" to enter a door. Using C-3PO to listen to "alien language" or even using him to make that alien language on a terminal.
⚫Not all DLC is included in the SEASON PASS. This really got on my nerves as I had to purchase extra DLC to 100% my game (all achievements).
My Verdict
LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens is probably the BEST Lego game I have player yet. I have had the most fun in this Lego game. The story is amazing with fun puzzles and dense levels filled with quips, gags and goofs to go along with them! What an amazing Lego game!
EDIT: LEGO® STAR WARS™: The Force Awakens did not take me 60.2 hours to complete 100%. My actual 100% playtime is 24.2. This was caused by an issue with my last PC that would not let me shut my game down.
9/10! Traveller's Tales, this is how you make a lego game! This game has the magic to go with it!!
